A 29-year-old Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania man pleaded guilty to killing his dog after he claimed his own pet “put a hex” on him. On Monday, Joseph W. Elliott was sentenced to prison to serve one to two years followed by three years of probation. For the animal cruelty charge, he was sentenced from 6 to 23 months. For charges related to stealing a car, he will serve from one to two years. The sentences will run concurrently.

According to AbcNews, Elliott’s plea deal with the Lancaster County District included one charge of misdemeanor animal cruelty for the dog’s death and a felony charge of receiving stolen property and misdemeanor false identification regarding the vehicle. On April 28, police had been summoned to the man’s apartment and when they arrived, Elliott had been standing in the doorway naked. He admitted to authorities he had taken methamphetamines.

When police entered the apartment, they found a white dog dead in the bathroom. An investigation and necropsy of the dog revealed he died from eight stab wounds. Humane Officer Jen Nields investigated the case, stating it was the worst case of animal abuse she had ever seen.

“The way he was gagged and the multiple lacerations that were on him from stab wounds, and then just the bruising and contusions that he has and the blunt-force trauma, it was definitely a horrendous time for this dog during his death,” said Nields, who works for the Lancaster County Animal Coalition.

Elliott told Animal Control and police that night his dog had “put a hex” on him, and so he had to strangle his pet. Although he received the maximum penalty at the time of the animal cruelty crime, Libre’s Law had not yet been in effect. The law, named after an abused puppy, have stiffened penalties for cruelty. Officers are now able to file felony level charges for first-time cruelty. It also breaks down penalties for different grades of cruelty based on how bad the behavior was deemed. Under Libre’s Law, Elliott would have received a third-degree felony punishment and a longer prison term.

In addition, Elliott also stole a car and provided police with a false name. He was ordered to pay $265 in restitution.

  1. This is so horiffic what he did to his dog!! There needs to be much more penalities for doing such a sadistic crime then what he received. I hope he gets the same thing in prision that he did to his precious dog! And I’m so asshamed to even say that he lives in the same town as I do because everyone around here is animal lovers..RIP sweet baby so sorry you had to have a horrible, evil owner who I hope karma takes place in jail while hes there!!

  2. Low life Meth user and deranged POS who killed his dog because he was so high on drugs and delusional, thinking his dog put a hex on him. Give him an express ride to hell by giving him enough drugs to overdose. He is as worthless as the gum under my shoe.
RIP poor puppy, so sorry you had to die in such a violent way, you’re free now.

  3. Why is killing a living, feeling animal that he put thru suffering a lesser sentence than car theft? Really ? What do we prioritize here? a loving pet or a hunk of metal. That’s fucked.

  4. His jail sentence should have been the maximum and considered a felony cue to the way he murdered his dog. What a crock reason to slaughter his dog.Is the court going to wait until he does this to a human and kills that person? Justice was blind in this case.

  5. Another animal abuser who got a slap on the wrist – this hunk of maggot puke should be sitting in prison for at least five years – BUT hopefully, his punk white ass will get the true punishment from some predatory inmates who will give him exactly what he deserves on a daily basis, all day long. Let HIM become the victim.

  6. Gag the bastard and stab his ass with shanks in prison until dead. He should never be able to see light again. Dope head deserves death

  7. If this one of the most horrific case of animal cruelty then WHY was so little time imposed? I understannd that Libres Law wasn’t in effect at the time of this brutal the crime but even charged as a misdemeanor along with the other crimes charged the sentences could of been ordered to run consecutively versus concurrently!! Guess the life of this poor dog and the horrific nature of its death and the suffering it went thru wasn’t enough for this judge to make the punishment as stern as possible! Why does that not surprise me? SMH. RIP BEAUTIFUL PUP❤️

  8. Again, the one to two years is more for “stealing” the car than killing his dog! I don’t believe otherwise! “Under Libre’s Law, Elliott would have received a third-degree felony punishment and a longer prison term.” I guess he lucked out on this one didn’t he!

  9. And why is he NOT serving a MINIMUM of 10 years, paying a minimum fine of $10,000 and given a life time ban on every owning another pet or living in the same home as a pet? THIS MAN IN A horrible waste of human life. He needs to be penalized and not slapped on the hand with a 6-23 months and $265 fine!?!?!?!?

  10. THIS FILTH METH MONSTER BLAMES AN INNOCENT VOICELESS DOG FOR HIS PSYCHOTIC ISSUE, AND IT IS TOO BAD HE WAS ALLOWED TO HAVE A DOG KNOWING HIS MENTAL STATE! I HOPE THIS MONSTER ROTS IN JAIL AND HOPE AN INMATE STABS HIS ASS UNTIL HIS EVIL EYES AND BRAIN POP OUT OF HIS HEAD! PLEASE SOMEONE IN JAIL, TAKE THIS POS AND STAB HIM SLOWLY WHERE HE CAN FEEL REAL EXCRUCIATING PAIN AND NO METH. THIS KIND OF A WORTHLESS MONSTER SHOULDN’T BE BREATHING AIR!
