The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Animal Cruelty and Calcasieu Parish Animal Services responded to a distressing call on Monday from the Lake Charles Housing Authority about a dead dog found locked in her crate. The owner of the dog forgot to leave her dog with food and water, and even though she knew her dog had not been eating or feeling well, never bothered to take it to a veterinarian for treatment.
When authorities entered the home located on Gertrude Drive, they found the emaciated, small dog inside the crate without water. As detectives were getting ready to leave with the body of the dog to order a necropsy, the owner, Camilla E. Ross, arrived and told detectives she left her home on September 24 to go out of town and had just returned. According to KadnNews, Ross claimed she left food, but forgot to leave water.
The necropsy revealed the dog died as a result of severe dehydration and starvation; an object was found in the dog’s stomach which had been there for months.
Ross faces aggravated animal cruelty charges and was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center. She has since bonded out for $5,000.
Rest in peace little dog. We cannot imagine how you must have suffered.
