In Austin, Texas, four tiny kittens had been hidden beneath some bushes by their mother in a nearby field unknown to a local resident who started a controlled brush fire on Thursday morning. Within minutes he heard their plaintive cries. The man rushed to save the kittens and immediately transported all of them to Austin Pets Alive! located in Austin, Texas. Three of the kittens seem to have escaped serious injury and are being treated for singed fur, however the fourth little one – appropriately named Lightning, continues to fight for her life.

Lightning suffers from severe burns and is currently being treated with antibiotics, pain medication, topical creams, eye drops and of course – lots of love. Early Saturday morning her front leg showed swelling and the medical staff is carefully monitoring her condition. Kittens are very delicate, and their prognosis is still unknown, although they are being administered 24/7 intensive care. Late Friday afternoon, the kitten’s condition was updated on the organization’s Facebook page:

“Lightning is hanging in! She’s being cared for around the clock by our team members and was back in our clinic today to get her front paws wrapped. Her situation is still delicate so we’re monitoring her status closely.”

  1. Just read this story on another site, how awful!! Nothing more painful than burns! Thank you to the man who scooped them up and rushed them to get treatment! So happy he was a compassionate human and did the right thing!! I will be praying healing prayers for this baby and the others❤

  2. The person that did this to this sweet cat, should get 20 Years in prison and pay for all the medical bills,I am praying for this sweet baby, they should never be allowed around animals and never be allowed to own one and be put on a animal abuser registry we need.: How could anyone do this, they have to be sick in the head.

  3. Well I’m glad the man immediately brought them to get medical treatment and that most of them were spared any serious injury. Poor lightning tho, struggling for her life. I’m glad she is being given the medical treatment she needs and I’m praying for her.
