It had to have been an excruciatingly painful experience for a stray little kitten in Covina, California on Thanksgiving morning when her paw was caught in a steel trap. Sadly the innocent little one was euthanized because of the extent of her injuries.

The heartbreaking situation began when a concerned neighbor called authorities after hearing the agonizing cries of a kitten in pain in the 5000 block of Conlon Street. When authorities arrived, the neighbor reported she had been hearing the tiny meows for days and felt compelled to call police for a welfare check for the ailing little one. She directed authorities to a home nearby. When authorities knocked on the door, no one was home. Still hearing the kitten’s cries, deputies climbed over the fence.

That’s when they found the kitten in extreme distress- one of its paws had been caught in an old rusted animal trap. The men used screwdrivers to lift the metal clamps enough to free the little one’s paw; deputies comforted her until officers from Los Angeles Department of Animal Care and Control arrived at the home to take the kitten for emergency treatment.

“The kitten was evaluated by our medical staff,” stated Don Barre, spokeswoman for the County of LA Department of Animal Care and Control. “The prognosis was bad. We don’t want any animals to continue suffering.”

Not only was the kitten’s leg fractured, but she was in severe pain, was emaciated and refused to eat or drink. It is not known if the kitten had an owner.

It appears the trap was set in the homeowner’s backyard to protect a koi fish pond. At this time it is unknown if the traps are legal. The case is under investigation.

Rest in peace tiny kitten. You had your whole life to live. We are sorry humans let you down.

  1. How the hell could someone hear this kitten meowing and wait days to call animal control about it? This animal could have been saved. People are so afraid to act on something until it is too late. Wake up folks and act to save an animal, not wait until it is too late.

  2. ARE YOU KIDDING????

Some POS decided to set inhumane traps like that one to trap his neighbors’ cats and probably KILL them, like he ended up doing to this innocent kitten, to protect a fish pond?

Sorry, but if those fish are that damned important to you, KEEP THEM INSIDE!!!

Killing your neighbors’ cats is NOT an option!!!

This filthy POS needs to be place in his own damned traps, and by that I mean every single one of his extremities inside its own individual trap for just as long as this poor kitten had to suffer because of his indifference and cruelty.

    BASTARD!

  3. The poor baby. The phots are heartbreaking. Your suffering is finally over. Run free at the Rainbow Bridge. This part really makes me angry: ” been hearing the tiny meows for days and felt compelled to call police for a welfare check for the ailing little one.” Days! How can that person live with themselves knowing that they let a kitten suffer excruciating pain for days? And the jerk that set the trap….to protect koi? This could have been a kid. I am beyond furious.

    • A kitten won’t eat or drink if it is in pain, of course not, but with immediate pain meds such as a moraphine drip, re-hydration with lactated ringers and then surgery to amputate the limb, ( and of course lots of post- op pain meds), this kitten could have totally been saved and recovered and done great, but it is very expensive, and shelters are overwhelmed and most don’t give a shit is the sad reality. I am a 30 year plus rescue person with 2 cats that have gone through amputations ( from vaccine -related sarcomas and also once rescued a feral cat from the woods who was hopping around with her back foot recently missing, most likely from a trap, and all

      have done fantastic. Just sayin…

  4. OMG!! OMG!!! I just lost a big chunk of my heart reading this and seeing the pictures….WHY post those pictures??? OMG….it’s going to be a long while to get those pictures out of my mind! I’m wishing I didn’t open this post! ????????❤️RIP U POOR INNOCENT BABY❤️????????

    • You sound like me when I was young, but you know what getting a bit tough is a good thing, because it allows you to step up and respond and actually do some good, the world needs people who are affected and care and even more- can take action, and for that youhave to be a bit tough, ‘cuz there is so much crap going on. I just wish a rescue had gotten her instead of Animal Control because this sort of injury is totally fixable and she could have done just fine, I am a long time rescue person and have seen this several times , and they can do great with good , immediate vet care.Support your local Rescues, they do and care way more than the local govt. shelters that just kill everything for so much as a sneeze.

  5. Prosecute the owners of the house! They could have amputated her leg and she could have lived a long and healthy life but I guess people always take the easy way out. RIP sweetie.

    • The easy way out? Did you actually read and understand the article? The kitten was suffering for day. Wouldn’t eat or drink. Yet you would have prolonged the suffering for what reason? To make the kitten suffer more so that you could feel better about yourself? Is that what they taught you in vet school? I wouldn’t take my pet rock to you.

      • Yes, animals sometimes do not eat or drink when they are feeling sick but they start eating and drinking again when they are feeling better. They should have nursed the kitten back to health not put her down. Just wrong.

  6. WTH!!! You didn’t have to murder this baby. You could have saved her you heartless pricks. As for the brain dead fuckers who set this trap. I hope you get caught in one of these evil things. I also hope you die the same kind of death.

    • So, you would have kept her alive, in extreme pain, not eating, not drinking water until she died on her own? Such compassion is unbelievable, truly unbelievable.

  7. ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME??? These traps should be banned PERIOD…. but especially within city limit!! MAKE THESE PEOPLE PAY!!!! And as far as the lady who reported it…………..she had been HEARING THESE CRIES FOR DAYS??? What’s wrong….did it get on your nerves and that is why you finally reported it….to shut the little thing up?!?!?!? Dear Lord Almighty….what in the world is wrong with people?

  8. ????????☹️???????????????????????????????? OMG, OMG!!! ANGRY AND DISBELIEF HOW PEOPLE COULD BE SO CALLOUS, CRUEL, AND HEARTLESS!!! THIS IS EXTREMELY HEARTBREAKING AND DEVASTATING!!! SUCH A POOR INNOCENT KITTEN’S LIFE WAS SNUFFED BECAUSE OF AN IGNORANT PIECE OF SHIT SUB-HUMAN. PLAY WITH THE KITTIES AT RAINBOW BRIDGE.???? SWEETHEART, MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND KEEP YOU IN HIS TENDER LOVING CARE. ????????????????????

  10. Those traps are illegal. Even though owners claim it was used to protect Koi pond, it is still illegal. Owners should be punished. What if a child had been wandering back there during a family get together. As far as euthanizing the kitten, I don’t believe the shelter got proper medical care. Los Angeles County shelters are notorious for this type of treatment of kittens. On a separate occasion, I was present when a woman brought in a stray kitten to a Los Angeles County shelter. A worker told This woman that they would euthanize the kitten because they did not have the ability to care for a kitten. I believe the “medical professional” on site decided it would be too costly to treat this kitten. And, I believe that being a holiday they did not have personnel to call cat rescue. This is the sad reality of Lis Angeles shelters.

  11. What the HELL is wrong with these idiots??? They heard the poor thing crying and no one checked??? What idiots. They all need to be charged for this!!!! JUST HORRIBLE!!!

  12. These leg hold contraptions need to be banned nationwide – the idiot who set this hunk of shit out to protect their precious koi pond have the brains of a rock – this piece of junk mutilated an innocent animal and it is YOUR fault. And to these other jerks who do nothing and hear an animal in distress and let a tiny kitten suffer are just as guilty – this poor kitten died because of all of you worthless douchebags.

  13. Why didn’t they nurse the kitten back to health? It was wrong to kill her for this. Her paw could have healed or been amputated and the kitten could have lived. So wrong.
