Nana, an extremely friendly seven-year-old American bulldog, was found as a stray on April 30 along the streets of Miami. When a shelter volunteer overheard the conversation between a mother and her young son, Nana’s advocate’s heart broke into a million tiny pieces. The child instantly fell in love with Nana, but what seemed an instant bond was never to happen:

“A child puts his hands on Nana’s window. Nana tries to give kisses through the glass. The little boy says, ‘mom I want this one.’ Mom replies, ‘she’s too old.'”

How tragic to think this really happened, but the dog’s story continues and gets even sadder. According to the shelter, Nana spent the rest of her day staring at the wall; sad and defeated as if she knew what the mother had said to her son.

“Nana deserves a second chance at life, and for the record, to this person who left this dog behind because she is ‘old’, Nana is just seven. She has a lot of love and life to give to a happy family. She is loved by everyone at the shelter. Her kennel card has hearts drawn on it with ‘very sweet girl’ in big letters,” the volunteer wrote on Facebook describing the heartbreaking scene.

This sweet girl can be adopted from Miami -Dade Animal Services located at 3599 NW 79th Ave., Doral, Florida. Please share her plight with approved rescue organizations, friends, family and social media contacts. Sharing saves lives. When inquiring about this dog, reference #A1868703. Follow Nana’s plight on Facebook here.  An additional Facebook link found on Urgent Dogs of Miami can be followed here.

  1. Poor Nana. I think she fell in love with that little boy the moment she saw him (and vice versa). Meanwhile, I hope when the boy becomes a man and his mother is “too old” that he puts her in the most disgusting nursing home in the country and never looks back. Let her rot there.

  2. What a bitch!!! At the age of 7, Nana has a lot of life to live, and a lot of love to give! She could have given that child the best years of her life and given him memories to treasure: instead, his mother taught him what it is to be callous toward someone you form an attachment to, and someone he’ll probably remember.

I hope she finds a home, and a good one. That isn’t the best shelter for any dog to be in……

  3. I’m sorry but this woman does not deserve a dog! If they got a puppy and then the dog gets older what then, dump it in a kill shelter? They should like the type of people who would not properly take care of a pet ! Oh I’m praying this lovey dog gets rescued,he is so cute and like all dogs deserves the best tat life has to offer! So very sad

  4. I don;t call 7 years old “old” for a dog. I have 2, 7 year old GSD’s and they are far from “old”. The mother should have thought about the pluses, no potty training, most likely is beyond the chewing stage, etc. Praying Nana finds someone who sees her for the gem she is.

  5. This is so so sad…..praying Nana is chosen to be a part of a very loving family….she has so much love in her eye…..I’m so sorry that that mother broke her sons heart….. while the little boy loved her….the mother wouldn’t have…..I wonder if she feels that way about her older parents…..

  6. When the little boy is a man and his mother is old and dependent, he will not have her in his home having learned that living things that are “too old” aren’t worthy of your care and help. The lady was wrong in her assessment of too old as well. So so sad and this attitude is part of the problem of “what’s with America and all its former welcoming of life?”
This is what is wrong. Narcissism, selfishness, ignorance, fear of all that is not them. America will become unrecognizable soon if people don’t wise up. If you hate living things that are not you then don’t call yourself a Christian because you are not one.

  7. Mommy needs a major wake-up call – Nana would have been a perfect companion but due to her ignorance she was left. Senior dogs make great pets and thanks to Mommy’s stupidity this kid lost out on getting his best friend.

  8. There is no such thing as a dog who is too old to adopt! Humans are ignorant and prove it each and every day! Dogs are very intuitive, they know when they are being talked about, and will react! This woman is teaching her child the wrong lesson when it comes to adopting a shelter pet! She passed up a chance to adopt a dog who would have loved and protected her and her child! Their stupidity will be someones elses joy!

  9. Poor baby!!!! She is NOT too Old. How would that lady like it if she was told she was too old to do anything and to old to be LOVED!!!! IDIOT!!!

  10. I’m sorry Nana. You deserve so much more. I pray a wonderful family will give you a forever home with lots of love, treats and a few kids.

  11. What has become of Nana? I hope she was adopted to a great home soon but because of the holidays, I am worried about her. I have a senior little guy myself and love older dogs. They are terrific
