A Leitchfield, Kentucky man faced multiple animal cruelty charges on Monday after the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office seized several beagles from his home that were in need of “serious veterinary care.”
According to WdrbNews, Greg Rigdon, 56, has been charged with second-degree animal cruelty. An adult beagle and four puppies are now in the care of Leitchfield Veterinarian Clinic where it was originally thought one of the dogs would have to be humanely euthanized. Thanks to the dedicated staff however, the dog was given around-the-clock emergency treatment and medication, and is expected to survive. Currently the puppy is being fostered.
Sheriff Norman Chaffins reminds everyone there are no excuses for not taking care of the animals people take in.
“Some people treat their animals like family … and when they are mistreated … there is just no excuse for it,” stated Chaffins. “We think it’s important to take care of your animals, because that’s what they are put here on the Earth, for us to take care of.”
Rigdon is currently in the custody of the Grayson County Detention Center. An investigation continues.
