A judge presiding over an egregious animal cruelty case said he was “flabbergasted” by the details of the case in Hagerstown, Maryland prior to passing sentence. On Tuesday, Amber Nicole Brown, 27, pleaded guilty to starving her two dogs to death and then leaving their rotting bodies in her former home for months.

According to the Herald-Media, Brown pleaded guilty to one county of aggravated animal cruelty. Washington County Circuit Court Judge Daniel P. Dwyer sentenced her to 18 months in prison, suspending only six months of incarceration to be served at the Washington County Detention Center. After serving her sentence, Brown will be on probation for the next five years and be required to seek mental health treatment.

The case dates back to May 2016 when an animal cruelty officer, with the Humane Society of Washington County, met with the landlord of a property located on Dewey Avenue where the bodies of two dogs were found decomposing in the kitchen. Brown and Harry M. Hose Jr had been several months behind on their rent when the landlord went to check on the property. Inside he found two pit bulls barricaded in the kitchen; the smell of putrid flesh emanating through the apartment. Maggots were everywhere, urine and feces spread all over the floor, and the kitchen was destroyed as if the dogs desperately tried to find food before dying excruciating deaths. According to the landlord, Brown had sent a rent check a few days before he went to the apartment, but he had not seen her for an extended period of time.

When tracked down by authorities a few days after the heartbreaking discovery of the dead dogs, Brown stated she had checked on the dogs “a few months ago,” found they were dead and never returned to the apartment. Police found Brown and Hose, the owner of one of the dogs at a different address. Hose stated Brown was supposed to be caring for the dogs. In December, Hose was found guilty of two counts of aggravated animal cruelty and sentenced to three years in prison with two years suspended. He has since filed an appeal.

During the sentencing, Judge Dwyer expressed his sincere disdain for Brown’s actions stating:

“I cannot imagine how any human being with any semblance of a heart could do anything like this to two dogs. There must be something seriously wrong with your brain.”

Rest in peace innocent dogs. We hope you know there was some justice for the torture you were subjected to by these cruel individuals.

  1. Another damn starvation case. This is a slow, painful death. So sorry for these pit bulls; the most abused dog in the world. POS people did this and the; judge altho flabbergasted, should have flabbergasted her with tougher sentence!

  2. NOT NEAR ENOUGH TIME IN PRISON… but AT LEAST IT IS A START!!!! The eyes of this JUDGE were SAD to SAY WERE OPENED IN A HORRIFIC FASHION AS to WHAT and EVIL BITCH THIS WOMAN IS!!!! LET”S hope SHE IS SHANKED TO DEATH IN PRISON>>>SHE DESERVES NO BETTER!!!

  3. BITCH!!!!! There are MANY shelters in the area. MANY!!!! Plenty of rescues also. There is no excuse for this. Taking the dogs to a shelter and having them euthanized for space would have been better than what you did to them. I hope you rot in Hell.

  4. Disgusting, sick and twisted is the only way to describe these individuals. I hope their entire lives are impacted by this sentencing. I hope their actions follow them FOREVER!!

  5. ok here goes take some pit bulls that have not eaten in a week or two take the 2 dirt bags and the land lord and the neughbor and ocourse the pos judge throw them in the pit and see how they all feel after they are eaten alive justice for the two dogs

  6. OMG!! How long these poor innocent dogs suffered. Starving to death is an excruciating way to die. Obviously, this woman had severe mental problems to keep their decomposing bodies in the house. RIP SWEET ANGELS????????

  7. 18 mths in prison is such a small price to pay for the death of 2 beautiful dogs. After 18 mths she is free to start all over again but the 2 dogs do not have this chance to start all over again….this verdict does not fit the crime…she deserve a more hash sentencing. This is like a slap on her wrist…

  8. RIP sweet dogs. I can’t being to imagine the horrible way you died. I can only wish the same fate for the two POS who were supposed to take care of you.

  9. Well the judge wasn’t TOO offended. Only 3 years and 2 of them suspended? REALLY !?! Both of these monsters need a MINIMUM of 5 YEARS AND A $100,000 FINE!! Until these sentences start getting really tough… this crap won’t stop. There are too many monsters out there that do not give a thought to abusing or killing God’s precious animals!
