In an isolated area, two hours away from Dallas, Texas, a hunter and his wife came upon a most disturbing situation in the woods on December 30. The couple stumbled upon an old cardboard box with the words “Shoot Me” sprawled across the outside. As the hunter’s wife bent down to see what was in the box, she was shocked to find six helpless puppies still alive in the wet box filled with feces, urine and vomit.underdog-project-puppies-2

The puppies were emaciated and starving, and as the wife began to make a plan and call the Underdog Project, a Dallas rescue organization, the woman’s husband wanted to shoot the puppies. And as he cocked his gun, ready to brutally end the lives of each and every puppy, because the words “Shoot Me” on the box perhaps signaled a bizarre message to him, the man’s wife was able to keep the puppies safe until rescuers arrived.underdog-project-puppies-3

According to the Underdog Project who reached out to Pet Rescue Report on Tuesday afternoon, the puppies initially suffered from hook and tapeworms. When found, they had diarrhea with bloody stools and had been vomiting.  The pups are currently being treated for coccidiosis.

No one knows who left the puppies in the woods – there is no question the heinous, heartbreaking animal cruelty act would have left all of them to die slow, excruciating deaths. Volunteers say it is unimaginable how someone could be so heartless to abandon a litter of innocent lives with the words, “Shoot Me.” Be the voices for those who cannot speak. Anyone with information is asked to notify authorities.

If I were this hunter’s wife I would be kicking him out the door! He wanted to shoot them? He is no better than the POS’s that left the pups there! Bless this woman and the Underdog Project for rescuing these precious pups.

OMG!!! It’s bad enough that some idiot left these poor, defenseless puppies out in the wilderness in a box that says “shoot me” but then on top of it one of the “rescuers” wanted to shoot them!!!! Thank goodness the woman could talk him out of it!!!! Prayers for those poor little babies.

First-Of- All I commend the wife of the Bastard she lives with for Keeping those little innocent pups safe ( possibly at her own risk of life) since the POS she is unfortunate enough to be married to had a loaded gun in his hands!!!I would suggest to her that she could easily become as dispensable to him as apparently those puppies were!!!! The photo of the helpless pups and the “sick minded ” Shoot Me Sign on the box … Shows the mentality of a large number of Texas Hero’s???? Underdog Project is an UPSTANDING & COMPASSIONATE ORGANIZATION!!! I hope the pups live and find good homes… and the Asshole who left them has an unfortunate Fatal Accident!!! Karma is OUT THERE!!!

If I were the wife of that so called POS ‘hunter’, I’d leave the scumbag ASAP. Anyone cruel enough to want to shoot puppies is nothing but vermin. To do it to abandoned babies merely because their ABUSER left a sign on the box that said ‘shoot me’ means this piece of trash has no conscience whatsoever. Have children with him? UGH!!! How could she even want to touch him after that? I bet he beats her.

It would be nice if they’d find the garbage who did this. “Shoot me” sounds right for that bastard.

Revolting hunter mentality! However not all males who hunt are this ignorant or barbaric. Thank Puupy loving woman she saved their little lives! The husband is an ignorant pos obviously.

I hope the POS who abandoned those puppies is hit by Karma very soon. As for the husband who wanted to shoot the puppies, WTF is wrong with you???? Thank God your wife has some common sense and compassion.

Thank goodness that the wife intervened! Heartbreaking to read of the suffering these beautiful ones went through and even worse that one of them actually didn’t survive. I hope that the remaining five find a good and loving home (or homes more likely) and they never have to suffer the same ever again. Love and prayers to you and the goodness of the wife for saving them! ❤️

Cheryl Hanna. Something doesn’t sound right with this story. The wife finds these puppies and yet the husband still wants to shoot them. Did these puppies belong to these people? Come on give us the real story.

The story, as told to me by the rescue confirms the husband wanted to shoot the puppies – most likely because they were sick. The wife talked him out of it and the rescue responded as quickly as they were able. It is not known to whom the puppies belonged. Animal cruelty is a constant battle because of the lack of microchipping and backyard breeding. Who knows how many puppies just like these little ones are not so lucky as to have been discovered and rescued?

You have more faith in the husband that I do. Yes the wife is awesome, but if she is able to change her husband’s cold attitude, I would be surprised.

        Barkleys Mom!
        Did you miss it?
The redemption of a mans soul?
Maybe this is not what you think.
This was a moral test. It was no accident this couple stumbled upon these children.
This was the battle for a mans soul. Just another battle in the side world that plays out in the daily lives of all of us.
the constant battle between good and evil.
        as in all cases,
        Angel of mercy=texas wife( protection)
Demon= Temptation to kill helpless children in a remote wooded area( the threat) because you can.
the box said you can and no one will tell.
        We know the facts.
She stood up to the devil,
and he beat it the hell , defeated, diminished.

And what do we have now?
a brave empowered and nationally heroic celibrated texas wife.
A grand stand and well documented win in the name of goodness!
A man not by force but by gental effect chose to now save thes children so they can be adopted out as valuble therapy or companion dogs.
Barkleys mom. Close your eyes and be rivited by this very good example …
Of the redemption of a mans soul.
This story does not end here for him now.
He is forever changed and his soul is touched.
