A creative, and determined, young woman managed to fulfill her hospitalized grandmother’s wish to see her beloved dog. The girl, who goes by Shelbae @HennickShelby on Twitter, posted photos of her clandestine endeavor to her account on June 11 and the response was overwhelming.

She Tweeted:

My grandma is in the hospital right now and wanted to see her dog. So I made it look like I was carrying a baby and we made it 😂

In fact, following the Tweet, Shelbae began “trending” in major cities like #Miami. The overwhelming response stunned the young woman who had wrapped the dog up in a blanket to look like a baby.

Girls sneaks dog into hospital to see Grandma

According to BuzzFeed, Shelby is a 21-year-old veterinary technician who lives in California. Her grandma had been in the hospital for a few days and she really wanted to see her dog, “Patsy,” so of course, Shelby was going to make it happen.

Grandma (Dona) was thrilled to see her dog and by Monday, she was even able to leave the hospital and return home.

  1. she did bring in a baby ,her grandmothers. and im sure staff was fully aware. and mined there immediate business.
all family should be allowed to comfort an infermed any where and anytime. It will cut down on meds and extend life.
    Joy is powerful

    • Absolutely! This young lady is a gem and I applaud her creativity and got Gramma to see her dog. Love this story.

  2. Good for her!! Sometimes animals are the only thing that can make a difference. I am sure the visit was just what the dog and grandma needed. Whoot Whoot!!

  3. What a wonderful granddaughter this woman has. Why hospitals don’t allow pets to visit their patients is beyond me. Seeing their precious pet probably does as much for the patient’s well being as all the medicine in the world!

    • They state they are doing better in this area… I sure don’t see it!!! they established an Green House Living here in our town. lots of donations etc. so seniors could live like home… One of the things they boosted of is that a pet could come with the family member!!! this has been nothing but total Bullshit!!! in the 5 year’s for 4 houses with 24 people each I don’t think they have “voted” to allow ONE pet in . the CNA’s that go by another fancy name now state they will refuse to care for the pet and let it in and outside…. more graff on the publics dollars….

      • I don;t know about our local hospital, but I know the nursing home my Mother-in-law is in allows family pets to visit the residents. As long as you can provide a health certificate from your vet. They also have therapy dogs that go around and visit now and then. I’ve always felt pets can help with healing and wish they would show a little more compassion for people and their pets.

  4. July 1983 Cheyenne Wyoming VA Hospital ; with tears in my eyes this morning I write this post… my father served and was Honorably Discharged for his service to this great Country in WW II he served in the Western Front in the Pacific in the Pacific . He was an older man when he was drafted in 1941 and discharged in 1945.as he was 34 when he married my mom… in 1947. He was never really well and he and my mom divorced . I went several times a year to visit him and he was dx with lung cancer ( smoking related ) terminal… a friend and I would make the grueling drive of 325 miles one way about 3 times a month on a Friday and come back home on a Sunday.. he lived 50 miles away in Laramie with his second wife ( with whom I did not ever bond) he always talked about his little red rescue dachshund Sissy whom he loved with all his heart and knew he would never see again.. I spoke to the nurses on his floor and asked if there was anyway possible I could bring her over to see him and these wonderful nurses made it happen!!! I was able to go over to Laramie and get the kid and I made the trip over with her… after lunch the told dad they were going to take him to the day room and let us visit there and they assured him they would make sure he was comfortable !!! I went down to the car ( this early Spring and still cool out) got her and carried her on the elevator to his floor where two nurses were waiting and walked me down to see him… The look and joy he had and OH how Sissy cried and cried to see him was so damn emotional to all that were there.. She was able to stay for an hour till I could see that dad was in pain and they said their last good by.. maybe that was part of the reason I changed professions at 42 years old and went from banking to nursing and I have always advocated that dogs and family pets should be able to be a part of the whole life process.. For years I worked on a locked unit for dementia and Mr. Pickle was my companion that went to work with me nights and did the rounds and as in that setting many folks are up he visited with the patients … an old nurse who had several dachshunds in her life time would take Pickle to bed with her … he family was so happy about this and we became very good friends and although mom is gone we still talk several times a week and they have had 6 of our rescue dachshunds ( still have 4) … OUR hospitals NEED more of this !!!! COMPASSION

    • What a wonderful thing you did for your Dad and little Sissy (I’m sure she missed him just as much). You are so right our hospitals need more compassion when it comes to pets, They are family too.
