A horribly neglected senior dog was found at a woman’s home in Queen Creek, Arizona. According to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office, the 12-year-old cocker spaniel, named “Lillie,” had not been groomed for a “long, long time” and she had four pounds of matted fur that was so heavy that she could barely walk.
ABC 15 News reported that a welfare check at the 66-year-old woman’s home led to the disturbing discovery – in addition to the neglected dog, investigators discovered a malnourished and emaciated horse named “Santos.” The horse was in such poor condition that he had to be humanely euthanized.
Detective Dave Evans with MCSO described the horse’s poor condition to ABC 15, “All the ribs, bones were showing. The horse was in real bad shape. It was emaciated, it was having liver failure, it was dehydrated, and it was in very bad shape.”
The animals’ owner, identified as Sandra Wood, is facing four counts of animal cruelty. The situation remains under investigation.
