Hopeless dogs in kill shelter: Irina’s skin had hardened like cement

Irina’s coat had once been brown; that is of course when she had a coat. After months and months of mange which turned into long time neglect, Irina’s skin had hardened like cement. It didn’t matter anymore because the animal shelter in South Texas  doesn’t have the funds to help the dogs. And there they all wait; the hopeless, the sick and the scared. So many injured dogs are thrown together, and all are at the mercy of the person who signs their death sentences if no one comes to claim them.

“Irina (the brown dog) was brought to our attention due to her severe medical condition,” Stacey Silverstein, co-founder of Rescue Dogs Rock NYC posted on the group’s Facebook page Sunday morning. “She is hairless, weak, covered in mange with a badly injured leg.”

If Irina was to have a chance to survive, she would need life saving medical care, and Stacey agreed. But, the other dogs in the kennel needed help as well, and Stacey couldn’t leave them behind as they were all clearly suffering from various medical issues.

“Just look at all those scared faces. We have committed to helping these angels. We cannot stand by and allow them to suffer anymore,” Stacey explained.

It is expected the veterinarian care for these dogs will be extremely expensive as they are all very ill. Can you help?

  1. Stacey Silverstein is beyond being a rescuer, she is the soul behind RDR in NYC, and doesn’t turn her back on the most helpless of animals that would otherwise die. Where is Texas helping their own animals? I realize much has happened in Texas, but these animals can be taken care of if you have the right people in charge and facilities that will treat them. I cried when I read this but when I saw Stacey and her organization was there for these dogs, I know they will do the most they can to give these dogs a fighting chance.

  2. Can they afford a $10 gallon jug of Chlorhexadine? That would make probably 100 baths for killing mange. It called a hibi cleanse. Volunteers could bathe them 2 times and the mange would be gone. Look it up. I volunteer lots and have done this treatment. I am sure your volunteers would be happy to improve furfriends lives. They would have a better chance of adoption. STOP THE KILLING>

  3. too bad we can’t find the people who did these horrible things to these helpless animals, and do the same things to the people.

  4. Wish they would have given the name of the so-called “shelter” in south Texas. They do not deserve to be in operation if all they do is take animals in and do nothing to help them! Close that place down!

  5. You hear this over and over about so called ‘shelters’ in Texas – No Funds – but they have the ‘funds’ to pay the director, management and staff – and you would think there would be ‘funds’ to help the animals – isn’t that what these ‘shelters’ are there for? To allow animals to suffer and do nothing is despicable. This crying ‘poor’ and ignore animals in their care who need help yet they have the money to kill them but none to give them medical care.
