Help is being given to a dog who has survived unimaginable cruelty. The dog, dubbed “Dwayne,” was kicked, beaten, muzzled with wire and doused with scalding water – according to the Helen Woodward Animal Center, despite the horrific abuse, Dwayne still has a kind soul.

The ongoing abuse left Dwayne disfigured, but his gentle demeanor has remained intact. Dwayne used to live in Tijuana, Mexico – it was there that he was repeatedly abused, not only by his owner but by cruel residents who tortured him as he scoured the area for food.

Dwayne longed for kindness but was met with repeated pain and cruelty – his life finally changed when an independent rescuer saved him from his agonizing existence. The Helen Woodward Animal Center explained:

Center Companion Animal Hospital Chief Veterinarian Dr. Patricia Carter first found out about Dwayne when the independent rescuer reached out to her for help. With aid from an Arizona-based donor, the rescuer had already taken care of Dwayne’s immediate head wounds and had him neutered, as well. Due to the severity of his damage and the extreme expense required to repair him, none of the rescuer’s normal shelter contacts would accept him.

“It’s unbelievable,” stated Helen Woodward Animal Center President and CEO Mike Arms. “This beautiful dog took all the despicable abuse and neglect man can show to an animal and still he wouldn’t turn on mankind. Helping animals like this is at the heart of Helen Woodward Animal Center. This is what we stand for and we’ll do everything we can to care for him and protect him.”

According to Fox 5 San Diego, Dwayne’s first major reconstructive surgery, which lasted for two hours and took place on Monday, went well. The goal of the surgery was to help Dwayne eat and drink more easily – in a few weeks, he will undergo further surgery to help repair more of the damage to his abused body.

  2. I want to kick some serious ass to the low life ass hole who did this to this poor soul. I hope who ever did this that they have nightmares for the rest of their pathetic life with no peace.

  3. I’m mortified and crying for this beautiful beautiful sweet boy!! This horror has left me speechless at the immense cruelty inflicted upon such a helpless voiceless little soul!! How I would love to have him and show him all that is good and kind in life!! Get well soon sweet boy!!

  4. What he did to this poor dog the same needs to be done to them. Sick low life, scumbag mentally insane MotherF%#ker. I want to torture the bastard myself wish he was near me. Hope he rots and dies slowly

  5. Unfortunately south of the border dogs are abused as sport! Over seas same thing its like someone declared open season on animals and told every sick piece of garbage to go and have at it! Its dispicable what happened to Dwayne but im so glad that there was someone to save him! He will be just fine and i have no doubt he will find a wonderful forever home!

  6. Thank you to the independent rescuer and to the vet staff! Such assholes who did this to Dwayne. Positive thoughts for Dwayne’s further recovery. What a sweet and trusting baby.

  7. As par for the course – Dwayne has more soul than ALL of the so called ‘humans’ who tortured him. Animals keep showing they are on a higher scale than humans due to their compassion and forgiving nature. Unfortunately, I am not that forgiving and hope those maggots who treated Dwayne so poorly end up rotting in the gutters of Tijuana, Mexico. Get well Dwayne – you are a fighter who deserves a safe loving home.

  8. I reckon these thugs are prison escapees ans difficult to pin down. They live on their wits by robbing ans other devious methods. Obviously they hate animals. They are a real threat to society and highly dangerous. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re drug pushers.

  9. Still praying for u Dwayne!! Praying for an amazing outcome for a love bug that deserves all the best life has to offer! Get well soon sweeet boy!

  10. Any so called human that could do that or see it and do nothing are the evil of this world. Cancer. Trash scum. Cowards mostly. Extremely ignorant. Lacking empatjy or compassion – black souls. No hope. Eradicate them.

    • in total agreement. ppl capable of this extreme cruelty could never have any value in society nor is anyone safe around them. They are wicked, bottom feeders that deserve punishment. They are lacking souls.
