Heartless family surrenders senior dog half-wrapped in a garbage bag

Whenever one thinks they may have seen the most heartless situation at an open admission animal shelter, another soulless act occurs; this time tears flowed freely down the cheeks of volunteers and shelter staff at Carson Animal Care. Blackie’s family surrendered their ten-year-old Welsh Corgi wrapped in a plastic garbage bag – carrying her in a cardboard box. They claimed she had a tumor that had been bleeding, yet they refused medical help. Instead they decided to just dump her.  And despite her family turning their backs on her when she needed them the most, Blackie remained happy.

The Carson staff unwrapped Blackie and cleaned her up.  She is in need of immediate help. Click here for Blackie’s Pet Harbor listing. “My name is Blackie and I am described as a spayed female, black Welsh Corgi – Cardigan mix. The shelter thinks I am about 10 years old. I have been at the shelter since Apr 15, 2017. For more information about this dog, call Los Angeles County Animal Control – Carson at (310) 523-9566. Ask for information about animal ID number A4446812. A Facebook page for Blackie can be followed here. Volunteers who have met this dog state she is very friendly. Other inquiries should be addressed to shelter personnel.

Share Blackie’s plight with approved rescue organizations, friends, family and social media contacts. Funds are being pledged for an approved rescue organization. A staff veterinarian will be required to clear Blackie to be released to a potential adopter. Sharing saves lives.

ellen cottone will only stick up for and make excuses for the “humans” that dumped this poor dog, like she did for the ones that put the poor little dog in the night drop box. You are correct though, “brainless, clueless, useless flap of skin” describes her accurately!

This is absolutely heartbreaking. This sweet baby deserves much better than to be dumped when she needs help…… if I lived in the area, I would foster her in a heartbeat……

I would be cautious in claiming “heartless” as the family at least had the presence of mind to take the pup to a shelter – too many folks manage this type of situation on their own – dumping dogs in trash, on the side of the road, in a rural area. And older dogs simply cost more money as they do often present with more health concerns. You have shamed people who perhaps could not afford to care for him. No matter the circumstances – families with the presence of mind to surrender to a shelter should be welcomed for at least offering the possibility to their dog of a second chance – your judgement of their surrender needs a second look. Why use “shame” as you risk people feeling ashamed and then taking matters into their own hands. Shame on you—

You are right, why call them heartless when they so nicely wrapped their 10 year old dog that they knew needed medical help in a trash bag, put her in a box and left her at a “Kill” shelter. Carson will take care of this dog by putting her to sleep. Her only chance is the volunteers can somehow find some kind soul to help this dog. My goodness what was I thinking? How could I possibly think these people are heartless?

Presence of mind to bring Blackie to a high kill shelter. If they “refused” medical treatment then SHAME ON THEM. SHAME ON YOU.

You are right to say that they have shamed this family, but I wonder if the family has toys such as 65″ TVs, multiple cell phones, numerous cars, etc. People need to monitor where they put their cash.

I wonder too if this POS group of DNA related individuals have all the “latest & greatest toys”….. my husband and I have cars that are 1997 & 2000, bought my first pair of shoes in 4 years….. because we spend our money on our animals….. it’s called priority: living beings are precious and treasured and irreplaceable…… things are meaningless compared to living beings…..

Shame on me for calling them heartless? The same “them” that refused medic help for the dog? The same “them” that wrapped a poor dog in a TRASH bag? Oh I’m sorry they so nicely dropped the dog of at a kill shelter because that gives the dog a chance? It’s rescue groups where dogs are given a chance to be medically taken care of, fostered and adopted out. If they had a heart, they would have sought out a rescue group that would have happily taken the dog, presented the dog as living being and not trash. SHAME on you for thinking my anger and words are uncalled for, or anyone’s for that matter.

This family is HORRIBLE!!!!I hope someone does the same to them when they get old, dump them in a horrid nursing home. And Dede,THEY REFUSED HER MEDICAL CARE AFTER THE SHELTER ASKED AND THIS HORRID FAMILY SAID NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Humane Society offers vet. services for people who can not afford private vet care for their pets. Payment is based on the pet owner’s ability to pay. There are also charity organizations funded by private donors, consisting of experienced vets with various expertise that will provide medical services at either minimum cost or in some cases free to people with little or no financial resources. A little research on the internet goes a long way. Therefore, there’s no excuse for this family to deny medical care, wrap Blackie in a black bag and dumped like garbage.

I have no problem saying to the family “shame on you” for such absolute neglect.

What has happened to these beautiful animals is beyond belief. Hoe can someone beat a defenseless animal makes me so ashamed to be human 😩and then the story of Blackie. How can you share your life with animal for 10?years and then dump her in a plastic bag. Would they do that to a human in this so called family if they get old or need help. I wish I lived in LA not the UK because I would take her immediately and love her as she deserves. I have saved up several thousand pounds to pay for my 10 year old dog to have his front paws operated on so he can walk without pain. I would no more dump him than I would one of my children. I wouldn’t hesitate to dump those disgusting humans in a plastic bin bag and hope no one finds and helps them. God knows how many Blackies don’t get found😢😪😪😢
