The heartbreaking video of Hailie, the senior Mastiff surrendered on March 1 at the Carson Animal Care Center, brought tears to both shelter staff and volunteers. The eight-year-old dog’s owners told the shelter personnel she could no longer care for their dog who had been with her since she was a puppy- but who could explain the tragic situation to Hailie?

Click here for Hailie’s PetHarbor listing. “My name is Hailie and I am described as a female, black brindle and black Mastiff mix. The shelter thinks I am about 8 years old. I have been at the shelter since Mar 01, 2017.” For more information about this animal, call Los Angeles County Animal Control – Carson at (310) 523-9566. Ask for information about animal ID number A4009432. A Facebook page for Hailie can be followed here.

On the Facebook page of Saving Carson Shelter Dogs, the following comments were posted – softly reminding advocates to concentrate on helping Hailie. It is indeed tragic that this dog knew something very frightening was happening, and she tried with all the courage she could muster on perhaps the worst day of her life to be brave, as she was finally but reluctantly pushed into the cart on her way to the shelter’s intake area:

“This is a REALLY UPSETTING VIDEO of a sweet senior named HAILEY getting surrendered. The staff were visibly upset during the intake process as well. She is getting placed in the roller cart that the staff use to transport the dogs through the kennels to the medical intake.

The owners didn’t say why except they could not take care of her anymore. This will make you so angry at the owner but what HAILEY needs now is support, a FOSTER and RESCUE and Pledges for her MEDICAL CARE and she needs out FAST; this has to be the worst and most confusing night of her life! Please SHARE or consider FOSTERING…”

Share Hailie’s plight with approved rescue organizations, friends, family and social media contacts. Sharing saves lives. This girl is described as being fine with other dogs and children. For more information, contact:

      • Why don’t you open your home for this dog easy to stand back and criticize but to get up and do something it’s a different story

      • EUTHENIZE? HOW ABOUT MURDER! FORCED TO DIE!
NO ANIMAL COMPANION ANIMAL OR NOT WHO’S HEALTHY YOUNG OR SENIOR, WITH TREATABLE INJURY OR TREATABLE SICKNESS EVER CONSTITUTES “EUTHANASIA”!!!!!!!!!
ONLY WHEN ALL ELSE HAS FAILED & THE ANIMAL IS SUFFERING NO MEDICAL SERVICES CAN PROVIDE FOR QUALITY OF LIFE! THIS ISN’T EUTHANASIA THIS IS MURDER! ALL THESE INNOCENT DEFENSLESS PUPS ARE FORCED TO DIE IN EVERY STATE CITY COUNTY RURAL PUBLIC SHELTER FUNDED BY AMERICAN CITIZENS TAX DOLLARS @90+%…SHAMEFUL DISGRACEFUL IN AMERICA OF ALL COUNTRIES MODERN DAY CULTURED 21ST CENTURY! BAN SHUT DOWN OUTLAW THE DAMN BREEDING FOR PROFIT THEN YOU CAN END THE NAZI HOLOCAUST BLOOD BATH TRYING TO CONTROL THE POPULATION CRISIS BY KILLING THEM OFF !!!!!!! THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH HOMES, RESCUES, FOSTERS FOR THE #’S ACROSS THIS COUNTRY! ATROCIOUS!

  1. PLEASE, there has to be a kindhearted compassionate person who will open their heart and home to Hailie – her heart is broken and she deserves to find her forever home.

  2. Modern people are more and more lacking of conscience. Of course that dog feels fear and loneliness. I would take him but I can only have one dog where I live. My dog is 16 and in really good health. I’m with him till the end. His love of life may take to 20. A very clean dog.

  3. Hailey is a cane corso. It’s heartbreaking that someone would surrender a senior dog to a shelter. I have a cane corso who is now 14 years old and I dread the day when he passes on. He was a rescue that I adopted 10 years ago. If Hailey was in New York, I would take her home.
    I’m so sorry Hailey!

    • That is awesome to hear, 14 years old is beyond what I thought I could expect for my Corso Mallory, who I think is about 5 years old now. I will need therapy when she goes, it will break my heart.

    • And if they really cared they would of realized how attached she obviously is to her owner. Mastiffs are so so attached and protective of their owners. I have an English mastiff and if she was in Ohio I would take her!!!

      • There are rescue groups that could help you get her to you often times with a free of charge or a very small amount for transportation. Maybe you could do some research and see if that is something you could do for this sweet girl!!! Still crying over this sad, sad video!!! I have been around a Mastiff for 9 yrs. in my niece’s home and their male, Angus, is one of the most loving dogs I have ever been around!!! I pray she will find a loving home ASAP!!!

  4. If I could get her to me I’d take her in a minute. But as with other commenter’s I’m on the east coast. People make me sick. I think if you give up a dog like this you should NEVER be allowed to own one again.

    • If you search there are groups that will help get her to you free of charge. If you can save her do a little research on free transportation.

  5. she needs to be taken from that shelter as soon as poss. she is heart broken , confused and afraid, please some one . get her out of that shelter ,and help her heal .

  6. Another senior being dumped because her needs as she ages are too much of a problem for her owners! Senior dogs need to be adopted or fostered as soon as possible! They have no idea what or why they are in this place! All they know is that they are homeless! Make no mistake older dogs know they are homeless when they are taken to a shelter! Please adopt an older dog they are wonderful! They are already house broken and somehow they are more grateful for their new home!

  7. If you’re not prepared to take care of a dog for the rest of its life don’t get one!!! It heartless and inconsiderate to abandon your dog wick devil!!! My heart aches for this poor dog!!! Just seeing its face should of been enough to change her mind!!! Smdh will someone please find a place in their heart and home for this loving dog!!! ????????

  8. We have a 9 year old English Mastiff, who looks exactly like Hailie, and we love him with all our hearts. I can’t imagine the loss and heartache that Hailie is going through. A pet is part of the family and is forever till the end. We live on an acerage in Nebraska and if I could, I would take Hailie in a heartbeat. So wish we were closer. PLEASE, someone in the area, take Hailie and give her a good, loving home that she so deserves! And for whatever reasons, I hope her previous owners are never allowed to have a pet, ever again!

  9. I have no kids and it hurted my heart when i had too put my dog down after owning her for 12 years.. 4 months ago.. My heart has been broken so i know how it how a dog feels when abandoned like that.. Shame on that owner..

  10. Prayers for Hailey! I actually prefer seniors. They are usually super grateful and they have mellowed out. Usually housebroken and they don’t require a ton of care unless of course medical needs…but I love those frosty faces. Please someone get her out of that kill shelter and mend her heart!

  11. Please someone take her home with you. She is so scared this is breaking my heart. Please want some no kill please save her life. .PLEASE. I’m begging you.

  12. Shame on this heartless owner. You should of found her a good home. Hope some wonderful loving person will give Hallie the loving home she deserves. I am trying not to judge the owner to harshly but come on people. How can you do thus to a sweet dog you have had so long. Karma will take care of you.

  13. Again you still have up a add for Greenfield Puppies which is A PuppyMill why are you continuing to allow them to have an add here when you are supposed to be a Pet Rescue site ? Let me guess its all about the Money , how in good conscience can You allow them to place adds on here knowing how those dogs are living a life of pure hell.

  14. The video says she was RESCUED today. It is so not cool that she had to go through a surrender at a shelter. A mastiff is a dog that will literally jump between you and a bear to keep you safe. The owner didn’t deserve her and I hope her new owners give her the life she deserves.

  15. Any update on this sweet girl. Our family have had 2 english Mastiffs. Our first died in my arms and we have a new boy that will live out his days with our family. Dogs are for life. How sad this was for her. Mastiffs are sensative.

      • Nope I don’t think it was hard for her at all …people who have a moral compass and a conscience would not do what she did she is a giant piece of shit.
The only person who has shame is YOU.
Would you give up a child because it had health problems ?
Judging by your comments you probably would

  16. And what happens when your parents, kids, friends get old…… WILL YOU STUFF THEM IN A CAGE AND WALK AWAY??? YOU WORTHLESS EXCUSE OF A HUMAN.

  17. Not sure anyone knows why this poor animal was surrendered. But have some compassion for her first family. Perhaps the owner has heath issue and can no longer properly care for this dog. Or maybe there has been a significant change in their financial status and can no longer provide proper care. Giving her up may be the best thing to do for her because she could no longer be properly cared for. I just hate to see some of the comments about the owner when the circumstance could be out of their control.

  18. I was so surprised by the lack of concern or compassion in Hallie’s previous owner. To me, just watching the video, I had a strong impression that this senior lady is having medical issues. Did anyone else here the owner say “she has been howling and I don’t know what’s wrong with her” . . . . . well, good Lord . . . . . here’s your sign!! I think they do know what is wrong, but don’t want to spend the money on this old gal. How cruel.

  19. So sad. Poor Hallie. How can people have a family member for almost a lifetime and then when they get old and need a little extra help they just throw them away. I don’t care what their miserable excuses are they aren’t acceptable – ever. Think of your poor sad, scared, confused, miserable baby. Don’t ever get another dog. You are not worthy.

    • Je suis entièrement d’accord avec vous, c’est inadmissible, quand ils seront vieux, j’espère qu’on leurs fera la même chose.
Vite lui trouver une vraie famille.

  20. Please tell me the status of Halie? Also does she get along with cats? What are her medical conditions, and last but not least….MY HEART IS BREAKING in two for her. please tell me status…. [email protected]. thank you as I wipe away more tears and wish I could get my hands on her prior owner!!!!

  21. I love M asstiffs people don’t realise they have big hearts, if this dog was in nz I would take it home xo
Well done to the people at the shelter you are angel animals protectors give the pup a hug and kiss from us in hobbit land nz xo

  22. This video is sad as a innocence person on death row.I breed these dogs they are great dogs and love there owner and homes like no other dog there hearts are even bigger than they are .there breed has a history of looking death in the face on the battle feild and protecting there land and master with there life if needed.staying by wounded master till the very end.too bad this dogs loyalty is strong than it’s master, may God bless her with the love she needs and a good home

  23. HOW CAN ANYONE DO THIS TO A FAMILIEMEMBER?????ITS UNBELIVING !!!! ITS SO CRUEL !!!DONT YOU UNDERSTAND THIS S K “OWNER” ITS HORIBELT !!! WHISH YOU Ä CAREFUL NEW HOME ???????????? YOU DESERVES THIS ???????????????????? SHAME ON YOU HOW LEFT HER !!!! BIG HUG TO YOU HALLIE FROM SWEDEN ❤❤❤❤❤❤
