There is heartbreaking news to share about a neglected, likely abandoned, pit bull dubbed “Copper.” Copper was found alongside an abandoned house in Michigan – though he was rushed to a veterinarian for care, help came too late and he did not survive.

The tragic news was released via social media on Friday morning:

Run free Copper. Thank you to the many who prayed, and to those who donated, and to the rescue who had agreed to take him, and especially to the loving staff at Healthy Paws, who worked feverishly to make this cold boy warm, comfortable, and save his life. Sometimes help comes too late. Run free beautiful boy w copper colored eyes. We loved you, and you mattered.

When animal control first discovered Copper, his mouth was full of dirt, he was so cold that his temperature would not register and he was shaking and non-responsive. Despite his pitiful condition, a spark of light in his eyes prompted his rescuers to work to save his life.

Every effort was made to save this castaway dog’s life – but help came too late.

Run free Copper.

Tears flowing for Copper….if only he could have been found sooner. I know the original story said there was discussion as to whether to euthanize him but there seemed to be “fight” left in his eyes so they tried to save him and for that, I say “THANK YOU”! RIP Copper. I’m sorry you suffered; I hope you know you were loved at the end, if just for a short time.

I am very upset to read this. R.i.p Copper. His soul is calm and released now. I’m glad he was looked after medically by the vets. He must have known they were helping him. R.i.p

so very sad.Copper you did matter to all of us animal lovers who didn’t know you but loved you anyway.God will take care of you now.You are in a special place where no one will abandon you now.Whoever left you like this to die is an evil coward. They will get what they deserve someday someway somehow. You will not be forgotten by people like me who care.I just wished that you would have been found sooner. The least they could have did was make a phone call to a rescue group from a unlisted number to let them know you were there. But they were too big of cowards to even do that. They will pay someday .Copper you didn’t deserve this.

This is so heartbreaking — how can people do this? You have to be EVIL to do this some poor animal. I just don’t understand how you can treat a dog like this — a dog who would do anything they could do to please you. How do you something like this to a creature that only wants to love you? I just don’t understand and I never want to.
