It was a heartbreaking sight on Saturday afternoon as three tiny dogs tried so hard to keep their owner from dragging and surrendering them to the Miami-Dade Animal Services. The two senior Chihuahuas and their bonded friend, a tan Basenji videoed were pulled through the lobby of the shelter and tried with all their strength to put the “brakes on” with their tiny feet. Still, there didn’t seem to be much they could do as their lives are now in serious peril.

And in one stroke of the pen, the dogs were sentenced to death unless they are adopted or fostered. Here they are:

Meet Marissa A1890143: Basenji “I am a female brown and white Basenji. The shelter staff think I am about 10 years old. I was found as a stray and I may be available for adoption on 07/26/2017.

Meet Bronx A1890147: Smooth coated Chihuahua “I am a male chocolate and white Chihuahua – Smooth Coated. The shelter staff thinks I am about 10 years old. I was found as a stray and I may be available for adoption on 07/26/2017.

Meet Golden A1890145: Smooth coated Chihuahua  “I am a female brown and white Chihuahua – Smooth Coated. The shelter staff thinks I am about 10 years old. I was found as a stray and I may be available for adoption on 07/26/2017.

Share these three dogs with friends, family, approved rescue organizations and social media contacts. Facebook pages advocating for their rescue and pledging funds can be followed here and here.

Sharing saves lives. Please note the dogs are described as “strays” in their PetHarbor descriptions. According to shelter volunteers, the dogs are listed this way to give them more time in the public eye to find homes. Surrendered pets can be euthanized at any time. Again, we do not know the circumstances the dogs were surrendered or if their owner had an emergency situation, however planning for the future of our pets in cases of dire reflect responsible ownership.

For more information about these dogs and how to adopt, contact Miami-Dade Animal Services

Adopters and rescues are responsible for evaluating the dog to make sure that he or she is a good fit. We cannot be held responsible for incorrect information or health/behavior of the dogs.

Per BSL (Breed Specific Legislation), pitbulls and pitbull mixes CANNOT be adopted by Miami-Dade county residents. UDOM (Urgent Dogs of Miami) is against BSL and advocates for pitbulls but we have no control over this legislation.

  1. Poor little pups, kudos for the shelter staff listing them as strays to lengthen their time to be adopted. I pray they all find loving homes.

  2. OMG this is so sad that 3 dogs were surrendered to the shelter. How can people be so cruel to there dogs. Dogs are for life people FFS. and not to be get rid of as you are sick and tired of them. I hope that these 3 dogs find homes very soon and not to be separated from each other.

  3. How can anyone due this to their dogs, I will never understand. I hope rescue comes quickly & wish I could foster, atleast. I will share

  4. ANYONE who could literally dump ANY animal in a hell hole like the Miami-Dade Death Camp has NO soul. These poor little dogs have no chance being in this filthy place. PLEASE some senior dog rescue come through for them – they desperately need a savior.

  5. The heading said owner surrender. Is this not accurate? Pic appears dogs being dragged into the shelter. So what is the story!!

  6. Are there forms to fill out where the owner has give give their name for surrender? If so, could a statewide animal abuser list be set up so that this person could not own any more animals?

  7. Ceux qui abandonnent leurs animaux devraient être fichés et interdits à ne jamais plus posséder d’animaux. C’est une HONTE, surtout à leur âge. Vite, une vraie famille pour ces anges au coeur brisé.

  8. How do you walk into a shelter and just hand over your elderly dogs and leave? People are heartless and self centered and nothing matters except themselves.Even if the owner has fallen on hard times, they should have asked for help in fostering them or groups that would take them. I do hope all 3 are at least in the same kennel space.

  9. That makes me both sad and angry. As a Los Angeles shelter volunteer, I saw that every single day. I wish every possible evil on pieces of crap humans who do that to their pets.

  10. If these dogs are family, I hope to God she doesn’t give up so easily. So heartless! Please anyone, share this video to rescue groups to include tracy’s dogs organization. They come and pick up dogs. I hope and pray they find a true genuine parents, and not scumbag like this lady!

  11. Just turns my stomach. How can someone do this to part of their family? You need to do a lot of praying that this doesn’t happen to you someday – being dragged to a nursing home that is not well taken care of to spend the last days of your life. Please, there has to be some senior organization that can take them – Please!!

  12. what a low life..she should never be allowed to own another dog for the rest of her stinking life..those poor babies

  13. Those precious furbabies knew their lives were changing forever and their human, who they loved and trusted, showed them no compassion whatsoever……….

I hope this POS owner suffers for the rest of her miserable life AND dies alone, afraid, and in horrible pain……. afterwards going straight to Hell to burn forever for her cruelty……..

I could NEVER surrender my precious furbaby…….. My husband and I do without to pay vet bills (“staycation” with our furbabies means more to us than any fancy trip or possessions)!!!!!!!!

OMG: I am crying as I write this…… my precious MacKitty is losing his battle against liver cancer, so I CAN now foster (probably fail & keep the little darlings), but it’s heartbreaking that I am in California and these precious little treasures who I CAN help are in Florida……. These precious treasures absolutely deserve to be beloved and treasured family members……..

MacKitty was a rescue himself so I know fostering needy furbabies would be something he would have been happy about……….

Would love updates, even if they are sad, but am praying for the best (my prayers for MacKitty were answered: he didn’t die alone and afraid in the hospital)……

  14. Please don’t let their lives end here! My heart breaks for all the seniors that are being taken to shelters by the people they have loved! It’s not a happy ending for most senior dogs in shelters!

    • They are on the Miami-Dade shelter site, listed in this article. They were dumped on 7/22 and you can sort by arrival date.

  15. horrible. Unless livelihood was at stake, and I mean that in the most serious way, I would not be able to live with myself, dragging my animals to an almost certain death. Despicable , I doubt that person made any attempts to place them in a good home. Makes me angry

  16. We went down Saturday to look at Marissa, cant find her two little friends yet. But since there is a hold on her we cant get her out until Wensday.

  17. I hope someone out there recognizes the UGLY legs and feet dragging these babies into be surrendered!! May Karma find this worthless monster (disguised as a human) and make her life absolutely horrible!!
SHAME ON YOU. Surrendering NOT 1…. NOT 2 …. BUT ALL 3 OF YOUR PETS?

  18. There needs to be a national registry. One for animal abusers and one for owners who surrender. There is no reason acceptable for surrendering a pet. None….zero….zilch! If you have a pet, you have someone lined up to take them should you pass away. You DO NOT MOVE to a place that will not accept them, you DO NOT SURRENDER because you are ill. No reasons… none.
If you surrender a pet you should NEVER EVER BE ALLOWED TO ADOPT, PURCHASE OR LIVE IN THE SAME HOME AS ANOTHER PET.

  19. Another piece of my heart and soul ripped away! Oh how I wish I could scoop up all three and keep them forever!! So so utterly cruel!

  20. The basenji was adopted and is happy in her new home..what about the other 2 doggies? I hope they have new homes as well..!!
