Haunting photos of ‘walking skeleton’ prompts rescuers quick action

Two haunting photos of a “walking skeleton” have become etched in the mind of Jackie O’Sullivan, co-founder of Rescue Dogs Rock NYC. On Tuesday, came a call from a rural South Carolina shelter, accompanied by the images of a dog with no fur and nearly every bone jutting out of his body, as he just stood staring at the camera, as if to say, “I want to live; will you help me?”

Possibly one of the worst cases of starvation volunteers have ever seen, the feelings and emotions evoked from the photos were anger, sadness, heartbreak, helplessness and despair. Nevertheless, this dog has survived  living in the most horrific conditions imaginable.  No one can change the egregious circumstances this dog has survived, however he has been rushed to the organization’s emergency veterinary hospital where he is being treated for his extensive medical needs.

“We can try to make him whole again and give him a great future, if he survives,” Jackie stated. “We have named him Elliott.”

There is no information on Elliott’s owner. The emphasis is the dog’s survival.

  1. Do hope there is prosecution for whomever did this. I would hope this was not intentional cruelty but other factors enter in such as where were the neighbors? family? friends? Prayers for that baby.

  2. I just donated $20 for Elliott……forgot to put on mail…….and will send him a few things to hopefully make him better!! Thank you so much Rescue Dogs Rock!!! You are angels on earth for this horrific cases!!!!

  3. RDR of NYC not only is right there to help animals but they have partners in those states that they can have the dogs immediately taken care of before being transferred to NY. Their partnership with many emergency care facilities is what helps these dogs get the initial care they need. Every day we see more animals in such horrendous conditions and many just turn a blind eye to the problem. We need all dogs spayed or neutered and close down any and all puppy mills, especially those run out of peoples homes or even apartments. This must be done nationally to control the number of over populated dogs as well as cats.

  4. Please make the owners PAY….both financially and in JAIL….. then their names need to be put on a national registry so they may never buy, adopt or live in the same home as a pet for the rest of their useless, worthless days.

  5. Sweet Jesus – what exactly was this shelter planning to do for Elliott – stand around and let him die – if not for Rescue Dogs Rock NYC he would be dead. It seems they are the only rescue that steps up ASAP to help.

  6. how is this poor coon hound alive,
    like an Auschwitz victim.
    what the hell man!?
thank you to the person who saw something and said something.
the original person who saw him in his living condition.
Thats the person who really stood up for him
    Once again ,
Thank you saint Jackie O’ !!

  7. Where are the updates? This was posted mid-October. That’s a month ago. Did he make it? Is the POS owner caught? Prosecuted? What goes on?
