Hank has been freed. On Wednesday afternoon, the betrayed pooch, who had no idea he created such a social media buzz saving his life, took his freedom walk out of Manhattan’s New York City Animal Care Center thanks to Rescue Dogs Rock NYC. Hank’s story hasn’t been simple. Everyone thought he had been adopted months ago, but on October 19, Hank was found wandering the streets and brought back to the shelter labeled as a “stray.”

The reality for the happy pooch named Hank is he faced euthanasia back in March 2017 at the Brooklyn Care Center for New York City Animal Care. His favorite past time had always been lying in the playground and watching everything that was happening around him. Hank loved carrying around his stuffed toy. After Pet Rescue Report told his story and posted his photos, thousands of readers and animal advocates shared his story. Despite the happy photo from March showing Hank adopted with his smiling “pet parent,” no one knows what happened. No one knows how he became a stray on the street again, but his future looked bleak as the 1:00 p.m. deadline closed in on Sunday evening, October 29.

“FRIENDS – I HAVE A HEARTBREAKING UPDATE! OUR BELOVED HANK WAS FOUND AS A ‘STRAY’ on 10/19/17! He touched so many hearts and had so many people wanting to adopt him, but some uncaring irresponsible POS betrayed his trust and threw him on the streets,”

posted an animal advocate.”

And again, Pet Rescue Report posted his photo and told his story; this time a lot sadder and much more desperate.

“Hello, my name is Hank
My animal id is #10234
I am a desexed male gray dog at the
Manhattan Animal Care Center
The shelter thinks I am about 1 years old, 50 lbs
Came in shelter as a stray Oct. 19, 2017

Hank is at risk due to being diagnosed with Canine Upper respiratory Disease Complex. He will most likely will require in home care with antibiotics and is contagious to other dogs. He received an Experience behavior determination.”

And then it happened. Jackie O’Sullivan, co-founder of Rescue Dogs Rock NYC stepped up, procured a foster home and posted the news on the organization’s Facebook page:

“We got tons of messages about Hank today, so know he is SAFE!! Please honor your pledges at [email protected]. We don’t know Hank’s full story, but we do know he was on the euth list back in March & was adopted only to end up back as a “stray” after being found on the streets of NYC! Pitiful this gorgeous young dog almost lost his life twice!!! He’s a year old! He’s going to an amazing foster home, but still needs a forever!”

  1. I’m assuming he had been microchipped. Were they not able to reach the adopter? Did the adopter just not care? They need to investigate what happened, and if this was a case of the adopter just not wanting the dog, they need to have a DNA put on them. SO glad Hank is safe and praying he finds the PERFECT home this time. Not some looser to just didn’t care about him.

  2. I just subscribed to a monthly contribution to Rescue Dogs Rock NYC. It is nice to see a rescue that will step in for a healthy dog, as well as horribly sick and injured ones. If all of the readers here did the same, even for just a small amount ($10 is the monthly minimum) that could make such a difference.

  3. i am so happy for you Hank that you are out of the shelter and with a foster now to find a person who will adopt you for good and who won’t betray you like the other one did

  4. I sure WISH there was a branch of Rescue Dogs Rock N.Y. out here in the Western part of the USA.. such as Utah,Wyoming, Montana, Arizona… these people are outstanding, compassionate, and most of all ANGEL”s in disguise !!!! I could cry from happiness!! The shelter who allowed Hank to be taken by this Astronomical Bitch and turned lose NEEDS to be Barred from ever procuring another animal!!! PERIOD!!!!

  5. I don’t understand! Don’t they have paperwork? Why can’t they find this jerk who adopted him the first time!? To charge her with abandonment!!

  6. I have absolutely no use for NYCACC of which Manhattan is part of – they KNOW who adopted Hank and need to contact this person – she needs to be held responsible for him becoming a stray – if not for Rescue Dogs Rock NYC Hank would be dead since NYCACC does nothing more than kill on a daily basis – especially pit bulls – thanks to Risa Weinstock who runs this Animal Death Camp.

  7. GO AFTER THAT BROAD that adopted him and sent picture. Obviously she did not take care of him. if she lost him, why would she not have reported it? GO GET HER!!! Do not let her off without a fine, jail something!! She could have cost this precious pup his life!
