A groomer who worked at a PetSmart in San Mateo, California, has been cleared of wrongdoing in the death of a small dog. According to Saturday’s publication of Mercury News, 39-year-old Juan Zarate was facing a felony animal cruelty charge in the death of a dachshund named “Henry,” who died during a grooming session with Zarate in May 2016.

Though a necropsy revealed that the one-year-old dog died from injuries consistent with strangulation, a jury found the accused man not guilty on Friday.

Henry was having his nails trimmed by Zarate on May 15 – the dog was taken in a back room by the accused man, who rushed out moments after the session started with the dog, who was described as unresponsive, with blood foaming from the mouth.

Zarate’s attorney’s stated that the prosecutor failed to prove that the accused man intentionally killed the dog.

  1. How does a little dog die like this if someone didn’t do it intentionally? I don’t believe it was an accident, this fool mishandled this poor dog and needs to pay for it! What was wrong with this jury?

    • I REMEMBER THIS SO WELL HENRT went with his owner and two other dachshunds… He was just a very young down and may have been his first time there…. and he was scared…. it was also apparent the this moronic piece of shit was impaired… Henry was back his just minutes and he was dead….. this putrid needs a case of 38 Lead Poisoning before he murders another innocent animal….. they should appeal this decision and request a new states attorney, judge and jury…. I sure as hell would even if I had to mortgage my home…..

      • I remember this too, and at the time I thought this POS was guilty and I haven’t seen any evidence to suggest otherwise. I don’t know how the jury didn’t find him responsible!. That poor little pup didn’t die of asphyxia on his own, he had help!

      • Penny, you speak nothing but the truth. I wish you peace in difficult times. #PennyForPresident2020.

  2. Thats so wrong. Why did he take the dog to the back out of view of eyes. That was my dog id get my own justice. The dog was young. Id be furious. He even looks like a fucking criminal.

  3. Perhaps he didn’t do it intentionally, however, the dog died under his care. Shouldn’t he still be accountable?
