Wounded puppy staggered out of the woods
Spread the love

Late Saturday night, a grievously wounded puppy, her body littered with severely infected bite wounds, staggered out of the woods and onto a busy roadway in Port Huron, Michigan. The pup, dubbed “Amari,” was spotted by good Samaritans who rushed her to an emergency veterinarian for care.

Amari is now under the wing of A ReJoyceful Animal Rescue, which updated its Facebook followers about the injured puppy earlier this week:

She was taken to an emergency hospital where it was found she had several large open wounds that had quickly become severely infected. We believe these wounds to be the result of dog fights. The wounds are large, infected and expose bone. Despite the pain Amari is in, she still shows signs of affection- even wagging her tail!

Amari’s condition is grave – in fact, she will likely spend at least two weeks in a veterinary hospital receiving life-saving care for her horrific wounds. According to the Times Herald, Amari wound up in the woods when her former owner thought the pup had died and left her outside of city limits.

The cost to save this injured puppy is high – in fact, estimates are in the range of $15,000. Click here to read more about how you can help.

  1. AS MUCH AS I TOTALLY ANIMAL’s $15,000 dollars is over the TOP… Christ! that is what amount of a new hip ball/joint and femor cost for replacement of a total hip,. there has to be a reasonable amount to assist this poor animal… and not gouging because animal lovers are vested… Vet’s can and should be able to donate some of the cost or provide a healthy discount for this type of abuse issue..

  2. This story sounds fishy, the owner thought she had died and left her outside the city limits??? Hummmm, doesn’t sound right but at least she’s in good care now. Get better soon Amari! And prosecute the owner!

    • Yes it does sound right. The pup was used as a bait dog and when the owner thought she was dead he just disposed of the body far away from his home in a location where the pup would most likely not be found. E St Louis IL (my area) has plenty of this. The way they treat dogs is totally heartbreaking. Monsters!!!!!!!

    • That’s what I thought. I’m confused by that statement. How does one not know if she’s dead unless the owner left her in the woods on purpose.

      • care if you had done research and clicked on Times Herald you would have noticed she was in the back of a car!!!!!!

  3. What is this, nationwide open season on innocent puppies? What kind of monsters is doing this to these precious babies. Keeping Amari in our prayers!

  4. It sounds as if they know the identity of the former owner…..put the POS in jail, make him pay for ALL of the veterinarian costs for poor Amari….and then beat the shit out of the POS owner.

  5. The owner probably didn’t want the Vet expense and decided to leave the injured puppy in the woods to die. Obviously the pup was not dead if she was able to stagger out of the woods. It’s cruel and inhumane to abandon your pup in such dire condition. Where was the owner when the pup was being attacked by other dogs? The pup was only six months old. I pray for Amari’s full recovery. Bless the compassionate individuals who spotted Amari and made sure she received medical attention.

    • I would guess the “owner” was conducting or attending the organized dog fight. Many of these pups are stolen or bought off of Craigslist or in Wal-Mart parking lots.

  6. 2 options to help an injured dog. Let’s see:

    1) take injured dog to vet

    2) dump injured dog in the woods

“Normal” people choose option #1…….. her owner (not a normal person, imho), chose option #2……….

This puppy was very lucky to survive and get help…….

I hope she recovers and finds a new furever home with a wonderful family who will treat like a beloved and treasured family member……..

I think the former owner should not be allowed to ever have another animal, not ever again…….

  7. I read about Amari on another site the other day and once again was sickened and heartbroken! The reason for the high cost is because of Amari needing specialized care that a lot a vets do not offer. Some days I just can’t read about these horrors so I have to take a break from these heartbreaking horrors inflicted upon innocent, helpless dogs. I will continue to pray for this poor baby and hope that Amari can overcome all of this trauma.

  8. Our government and politicians need to take a legislative stand and go after and jail all these dog fighters instead of taking down statues. More and more dogs and even cats are tortured by these dog fighters and left to die and I am sure local police know who is involved in these killings. Stiffer jail sentences and aggressively go after these thugs.

    • Absolutely! Those in authority need to take off the damn blindfolds and start prosecuting these maggots for the cruelty inflicted on animals. There is literally NO PUNISHMENT given – it is a joke and the dogfighters go right back and keep on doing it Makes me want to puke.
