When the gravely injured young, black and white retriever mother dog was surrendered on Wednesday to a high-kill rural shelter in Georgia, she was in severe pain. According to the owner, she had been attacked by other dogs; all she wanted to do was to protect her newborn puppies. Without medical care, her wounds became infected; the maggots could be seen oozing out of the open infected wounds on her slender body. Why her wounds were never treated or cleansed remains unexplained.
And if that wasn’t disturbing enough, where were her puppies she so desperately tried to protect in spite of her life-threatening injuries? It wasn’t until one day later that same person walked into the shelter and surrendered the dog’s six tiny puppies who also had maggots crawling over their tiny bodies. Rescue Dogs Rock NYC volunteered to help, and arrangements were immediately made to transport the family in peril to an emergency veterinarian in Georgia.
On Thursday morning, the mother dog, now named Sugar has been reunited with her puppies. Jackie O’Sullivan, co-founder of Rescue Dogs Rock NYC updated the progress on the family’s plight:
“Mama now called Sugar was reunited with her 6 newborn puppies & they are all at our GA vet recovering. Mom is nursing, but she’s also on IV fluids & antibiotics for her infected wounds. Her wounds were clipped & cleaned last night. We are happy to report all are maggot Free!!! Sugar has 3 boys & 3 girls & we’ll post baby photos soon.”

Charge the owner for neglect and cruelty. Where was the mama dog and puppies located when she had to protect her from other dogs? Additionally, why weren’t the mama dog’s wounds treated immediately to avoid infection. I’m glad Sugar and her puppies are together and hope they’ll find loving homes. Again RDR came to rescue this family. Thank you.
Tears. What a sweetheart. Hope someone will provide the perfect loving home for her and maybe her babies can go with her and adopted out later. Again Rescue Dogs Rock NYC came through. What an amazing group. Got a few extra bucks for them? Forget the fancy coffee for a couple of days. Sugar needs a home. She’s in Georgia and could use a little more help with her family she nearly died for.
I’ve donated almost $500 to Rescue Dogs Rock NYC so far this year and will probably donate more before year’s end. They are amazing, taking the worst of the worst cases.
Poor Sugar – she gave everything for her puppies. I hope she has a complete recovery and finds a wonderful home.
Someone should transport the “so-called” human that claimed to own this momma and pups to the land-fill where TRASH belongs!!!! What a poor excuse for a person this is!!!
This was the first comment I made about the worthless less than human “so called owner” so how could it be a duplicate!!!! the scumbag is more than worthless, and they should be lifeless as well!!!!!!!
I hope this precious, sweet mom finds a loving home a family to adopt her. The puppies will have no problems finding a home…hopefully Sugar will also be adopted.

The idiot owners probably planned on selling the puppies, but then realized they were too young to be away from the mother. Sharing with prayers for this four-legged family and also that Karma pays a visit to the one(s) who let this mama dog suffer and then took her puppies from her and dumped her at the shelter. Her puppies are with her now, but that means there are 7 lives at risk.
Another case of illiterate ignorant and uncaring subhumans who should have been aborted instead of being allowed to breathe one bit of air. And then these hunks of trailer trash dumped the mother and the puppies into a so called ‘shelter’ who did nothing to help – good PR Georgia – and once again, if not for Rescue Dogs Rock NYC this whole family would have died without ANY medical care – THANK YOU once again for coming through – RESCUE DOGS ROCK NYC IS AWESOME!
The people that allowed this to happen need to be charged with animal abuse! Sugar and her pups are in good hands now, keeping them in our prayers.

Now…….what’s the status of pursuing the “neighbor” who called about the dogs and puppies…??? Yes. We all know that this person was most likely the evil idiot who let this happen!!!!!!!!
Why doesn’t the shelter call the authorities ; obviously severe neglect case. What the heck is going on in Georgia. File charges against the owner!
