We have come to find out there are very few quiet days for animal rescue organizations, and Wednesday was no different for Rescue Dogs Rock NYC, a non profit whose goal focuses on the needs of urgent animals and provide them  emergency or specialized medical care they need and deserve.  A dog with shocking injuries arrived at a partner veterinarian hospital in South Carolina.

What happened to Foxy is heartbreaking; the senior Labrador retriever is currently receiving pain medication and is being prepared for surgery. Her story begins:

“Seeing this made our hearts literally hurt,” stated Jackie O’Sullivan, co-founder of the rescue organization. “Foxy is a sweet 12-year-old Lab mix who was attacked by another dog in South Carolina. She came into our vet, and there were two options – she could have been euthanized or admitted to the hospital for surgery.”

Foxy’s owner brought her to the veterinarian to be euthanized, however the hospital asked the owners to surrender her, and they would reach out to a rescue organization for help. The owners agreed.

“Foxy is being prepped for emergency surgery now because we could not say no! This is not her fault! She is an otherwise sweet, happy family dog!,” Jackie wrote on Facebook. “We understand this is graphic, but we could not let Foxy die because of this. She is an innocent victim who deserves to get help.”

Updates as to the dog’s condition will be provided as soon as possible. To help:

  1. If it wasn’t the owners’ fault, I really will never understand that they have to surrender the dog to get help. Why not help them with the surgery and let the dog go back home? I would die if I had to surrender one of my dogs because of something like this. You love an animal and do everything you can to keep them safe and healthy, but something out of your control happens and you are faced with thousands of dollars in vet bills. So, you either have to have the dog PTS or give them up? There should be a “door #3” – like get the dog the help they need and let them go home with their loving family. Prayers for this sweet dog. I can’t even look at the photos.

    • I agree why was the owner forced to give her up , if they r going to help save her why not do it with the owner. This poor baby is now fighting for her life and she lost the only people she knew. I don’t think it’s fair to have to give up your pet because of something u had no control over. They should of helped the owners. Does anyone know where or what happened to the other dog that did this to her is?

      • The owner brought the dog in to be euthanized. The vet wanted to give Foxy a chance and told the owner he would try to find a rescue who would help and save her life.

  2. If her owner who’s had her for 12 years had to surrender her due to finances, will they be given first chance to adopt her when she’s ready?
The owner of the dog who attacked her what’s happening to them? Charges?
If Roxy’s owners gave a shit about her they should fight legally against the other dogs owners.
Poor Roxy, the trauma, pain & sadness of not having her family by her side during this, is heartbreaking

    • Dogs can inflict appalling harm. I too was wondering at the cause of this awful mess, but mauling would fit the bill. I have a large, dangerous rescue dog (he’s a Total Sweetie but has problems) – I have to be MAXIMUM responsible and on point at all times, because he could do this in about fourteen seconds, and would if not kept from it.

      • Thank You Folks ; Now I can understand much better and I wish this kind of things could never-ever happen again… ???????????? ♥ℒℴѵℯ♥

    • This can be explained. I had similar happening and my beloved boxer was ripped of a strip 6 inches wide and more all the way round her neck. I had taken a Dane in from my vet who was trying to save her from euthanasia. The dane had mange and i am good with skin, diet and protection. The Dane and a terrier attacked my Boxer mix. My Mickey Muffin looked much like this. It took months of skin stretching, antibiotics, washes and bandaging to get it closed. I am guessing the two that attacked were jealous as Mickey was always at my side being a most devoted angel.

  3. Please baby girl, be patient. It will take a long time to heal. that flap of skin will grow after stretching and trimming of the necrotic skin. My Mickey Muffin just loved the vets and didn’t do much complaining. HEALING Took a long time but she did get well. You will also. Your Mom loves you and that helps so very much. We love you too.

  4. I think it is disgusting that one has to sign away their family member in order to get it the help it needs. What happened to helping people who need it just because you can ?
