Guerro is a goofy boy who is adored by volunteers at the North Central Shelter in Los Angeles, California – tragically, this friendly boy has been homeless (and kenneled) for so long that he has started to mutilate himself. As a result, Guerro is considered to be “urgent” because he is deteriorating and must be out of his current situation.

On Monday, the Friends of North Central Shelter Facebook page wrote:

UPDATE: We’ve been able to hold Guerrro for several months by temporarily making space by adopting/fostering out other dogs, but he is once again very urgent. Guerrro’s BLUE MEDICAL ALERT has been updated. He is needs rescue NOW! His new medical memo: “self-mutilation/traumatizing (chewing/biting) tail, presented with a heavily bleeding, traumatized tail 7/3/2017” PLEASE SHARE for adoption/rescue!

For a social boy like Guerro, being locked away, without a family and home of his own, is torture. Please help save this dog’s life by sharing his adoption information.

Additional Notes about Guerro:

Urgent plea! We are full past capacity and sweetheart GUERRRO (A1647377) is at very high risk and needs out of the shelter by the new year! The people who surrendered this babe reported that he was good with company and kids — and we’ve seen at the shelter that Guerro is a smart and goofy boy who loves puzzles and sniffing around in the yard when he gets to leave his kennel.

The tail chewing should stop once he is settled in a home and feeling secure. One of mine (who was also an owner surrender) was ripping the hair out of his hips in the shelter. We figured out that it was separation anxiety, because he did it after we adopted him whenever we left the house. After a while he figured out we would be coming home and with a little trust in his new family, the behavior stopped.
