At the Olde Cypress community in North Naples, Florida, a Labrador retriever owes his life to three golfers who rescued the dog from the deadly jaws of an alligator. Carbon, a black Lab who loves to frolic on the golf course and chase golf balls, also enjoys an occasional swim – this time however he took a dip in the nearby lake with a seven-foot alligator sunning himself on the shore.
The moment Carbon jumped into the water, the gator followed, but not before Donald Copps, who had been taking care of the dog, spotted the reptile going in after the dog and jumped in to save Carbon. Two other golfers saw what was happening and rushed over to help – using their golf clubs and balls to distract the alligator. According to Naples Daily News, Carbon was bitten on the thigh, but was able to get out of the water. Copps managed to back out of the water with no injuries.
Carbon was rushed to the family’s veterinarian where he was treated for a puncture wound and some lacerations, but the pooch is expected to make a full recovery. While it is not recommended to ever jump in a lake to save a dog threatened by an alligator, this turned out to be a very fortunate rescue for both man’s best friend and the man. Alligators are commonly seen in lakes and ponds in Florida. Be aware and above all – be careful with dogs swimming in unfamiliar bodies of water.

This is not rocket science you live in Florida you dont go in strange bodies of water and you don’t let your pet go in either! This turned out ok but most encounters between gator and man or any other animal ends with gator winning! So watch where you let your pets kids and yourself swim or wade!
Actually the dog had no business being on a golf course. The caretaker should have known better.
A huge reason I would never live in FL. Or any of the swampy southern states.
