Is is hard to believe Pancho is a German shepherd barely one-year-old? According to the Harris County Animal Shelter Volunteers, this sweet, young dog had been surrendered on Saturday because he refused to eat; that’s after months and months of homemade treatments including having being doused with motor oil to rid him of mange.

“This dog sat in someone’s backyard, getting worse and worse over the last three months, enduring homemade mange treatments like motor oil and a purple dip. Apparently along the way he stopped eating too, probably because he was just too damn miserable.

He is one year old. This is Houston, y’all,” a Harris County shelter volunteer wrote on their organization’s Facebook page.

When brought in, Pancho weighed 69 pounds; a dog his breed and his size should average in the 96 pound range. And when Pancho, curled up in the back of a pickup truck, arrived at the shelter, his owner called his demodectic mange incurable, and that was the reason she had decided to surrender him to the shelter.

On Monday evening, Vals Pals submitted a rescue tag for Pancho. Funds will be needed to help with his medical expenses. Click here to help Pancho realize life is much better than what he has known for the first part of his life.

  1. Hey idiot owner, you take the dog to the VETERINARIAN to treat mange and I bet it would have cleared up! I’m glad Poncho is safe now and getting the love and treatment he deserves.

  8. Ive met lots of people who told me they have heard of this method. I tell them its toxic and then I read the danger on the mange meds…and its highly toxic too. Its an old method from the 1900s…before people should know better.
