Life or death situation for dog named Army

A young German shepherd dubbed “Army” is lucky to be alive. Recently, the handsome, one-year-old dog was found with grievous injuries by a police officer in Santa Ana, California.

The compassionate officer took the injured dog to a vet clinic and the veterinarian reached out to the German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County for help. Maria Dales, director of the rescue agency told the Pet Rescue Report about the call the organization received from one of their veterinary partners:

Initial diagnosis was two broken front legs, apparently hit by car.  We had to make a life or death decision right then as to whether or not we could help, so we took a leap of faith.

X-rays taken at the veterinary hospital revealed that Army had serious fractures in each of his front legs – the preliminary estimate to help Army recover is $7800. Though the dollar amount is staggering, the rescue group feels that Army deserves the chance to live out the rest of his life and they are hopeful that other people will feel the same way.
Army has had surgery and metal plates were placed in his broken legs, along with metal screws to hold the plates in place – the young dog required two weeks in the hospital on “strict bed rest.” Just this week, Army was able to leave the veterinary hospital to continue his recovery at a foster home.
Army is fitted with “big, clumsy” splints, but he has a sweet enough temperament that he allows his foster family to change his bandages and give him medication without protesting.
Army has weeks of recovery ahead of him, but he is expected to be available for adoption in early July. Anyone interested in helping the rescue organization who made the decision to step up and save his life can make a donation at this link.
