A family in Bakersfield, California is outraged after their neighbor is alleged to have shot the family’s dog with a pellet gun and no animal cruelty charges have been pressed for the disturbing action. According to News23, the two-year-old poodle, belonging to Sarah Fraze, had been shot in the lower back on Tuesday afternoon, near the family’s home on Cherry Tree Lane.

Fraze’s daughter had been playing at the neighbors house with their dog, Jaxson, and stated the dog had briefly taken off down the street and wandered into the neighbor’s yard. As soon as the child realized her dog was missing, she went out into the neighborhood to search for him – that’s when she found Jaxson bleeding. The family rushed their dog to an emergency veterinarian where the pellet was removed – one lucky pooch as the bullet barely missed his pelvis and his spinal cord.

Police arrived and removed the pellet gun from the neighbor who did admit he shot Jaxson. Although stating he is an animal lover, he told news media he is tired of neighborhood pets coming onto his property. He said he only wanted to scare Jaxson and had no intentions of hurting the dog. Meanwhile Fraze is irate and is pressing local authorities for justice:

“Unfortunately since I don’t have an eyewitness. I couldn’t get justice that night so I’m reaching out to everybody to get the word out, to press this DA. This can’t be tolerated. This is injustice, this is animal cruelty. We need to have a law enforced, and we need to do it fast,” said Fraze.

While it is always encouraged for pet owners to make sure their canine friends are leashed when not supervised, shooting at a companion animal is an egregious form of taking the law into one’s own hands. Call Animal Control or the police if a strange dog is on your property – the dog or cat may have accidentally wandered away from their home.

Jaxson is expected to recover, but how much did it cost the family both financially and emotionally? What are your thoughts?

  1. This “animal lover”” needs to be procecuted !! This is his first reaction how about looking for owner!? This is a violent individual needs some attention!!

    • I agree for someone who says he’s an animal lover he would not have shot the dog. The neighbor is a liar!!!! He clearly does not like dogs. To scare a dog you don’t shot at them. No animal lover would ever shoot at an animal. You just ignore an animal that trespassed on your yard if you truly love an animal.

  2. too many folks are hateful now-a-days, no one has patience anymore. a few years ago looked out my front window, and there were 3 goats eating my grass. I just chased them off. I knew the neighbor and I didn’t like him or his family, but I sure as hell am Not going to shoot anyone. the guy should pay the family dog’s vet bill.

  3. I love these Ass wipes that profess to be “animal lovers” and yet shoot an innocent little dog because he wandered into their yard. You could have picked it up and tried to find it’s owner POS! And how can you NOT think that shooting a dog with a bb gun will just scare it and won’t hurt it. Another fool with a gun! This professed “animal lover” should at least pay the vet bill his actions made the owners incur I truly hope they get some sort of justice for poor little Jaxson

    • Agree totally! In addition to paying the vet bill, heeds to be held accountable and charged for animal cruelty. He just said he was an animal lover and he didn’t mean to hurt the dog because he got caught and is trying to get out of being prosecuted. What are the police waiting for? Is that all you have to do now to get out of a criminal act, say you didn’t mean it. Gee. That’s pretty idiotic. Teach him a lesson; you don’t shoot an animal just for wandering into your yard!

  4. This person, needs to be punished! Or the laws need to be harder on anyone else that wants to take the law in their own hands! Just can’t shoot animals! Please don’t let this happen to someone else!!

  5. Animal lover? Right. What a lying sack of crap! They always say that, just like cop killers who shoot and kill dogs, are supposedly dog lovers, even when they’ve killed as many as 10 or more. For this POS not to be charged is a crime. You don’t grab a gun of ANY KIND and shoot just because you don’t like having someone’s pet in your yard! There are so many heartless ‘people’ in this world who don’t care about anyone nor anything but themselves these days, and it’s disgusting. The shooter knew Jaxson had a family, and regardless of what he says, he had to have known that he injured the dog and that vet bills would be incurred. I don’t believe for a second he didn’t mean harm: otherwise he’d have shot to scare and NOT shot at Jaxson’s body! I hope there’s some justice here- jail time, payment of vet bills, and karma down the road would be great.

  6. Animal lover – NOT! And as usual, the illustrious justice system failed to do anything to this idiot – the family incurred huge vet bills and the perpetrator gets to go home – I hope they sue him for what he did – he needs to be held responsible for his stupidity. I hope this guy never walks down my street, I HATE animal abuse and he would pay dearly.

  7. Someone who loves animals doesn’t shoot a persons pet! Too bad this dog had to get shot! Now those who live in this area know who to watch out for!
