Crazy reason puppy is in 'jail'
Spread the love

The family of a young puppy, who has been in doggy “jail” for months, has announced that they will be faced with having to make some “difficult and costly decisions,” about their pet. Luna, a rescued pup, was seized by animal control from her family back in June.

The crazy reason? A bat, which may or may not have been rabid, was in the same house where Luna was – even crazier, Luna, who was just eight weeks of age at the time (too young for her rabies shot), was in her crate, in another room, behind a closed door at the time.

Even though Luna was cordoned off in another area of the home, local officials have decided that she should be quarantined at a veterinary hospital until December…”just in case” she was exposed.

A few days ago, after a court date, Luna’s family updated the fundraiser which was created to help cover legal fees and boarding costs:

Luna isn’t coming home today. But, starting tomorrow, we’ll be able to physically touch her again during our visits to the clinic. I can’t elaborate further at this time, but Tim and I will have to make some difficult and costly decisions. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers.

Luna’s owners are fighting the ruling because, according to state law, animals who are suspected of being rabid are held for just 10 days. Original article about Luna at this link.

  1. I wonder what difficult and costly decisions have to be made? Can an attorney do pro bono work for them? Wished they would have elaborated.

    • they were hoping to put him thru a serious of excruciating inoculations. the family started the panic by calling animal wardens on their self.
idiots actually removed him with the intent of for safety reason ( they can only prove rabies thru autopsy) to destroy him, but dont worry someone with quite power stepped in and prefers to remain anonymous.
because it just got to embarrassing

  2. Just how stupid can this town get? She was NOWHERE near that bat
DO NOT put that puppy Down!!! I know that’s where you are going. Sue the damn town. This has been torture for this puppy. Just shows you how ignorant Animal Control really is. How many more 10 days is she gonna have to go through. We will fight with you forever how long it takes. Don’t put that puppy down!!!!

  3. THIS IS JUST CRUELTY!!!!!!! there is NO reason for this puppy to be in “jail” all excuses to keep this puppy from there family!!!!! do they have proof????? bites? scratches? any signs after all this time???? this puppy was not near any bat and this is just INHUMANE AND CRUEL SHAME ON THEM!!!!! spend tax payers dollars on helping animals in need..abused – neglected, tossed away by cruel humans not an innocent puppy that should not be away from her family!!!!! THIS IS JUST DISGUSTING AND SHAMEFUL!!!!!!!

  4. So, Luna was not anywhere near this bat but in a closed room in her cage. Put this information before a jury and this dog would be back home. What insane people in this town and to waste time and taxpayers money is disgusting. The dog is fine, but the people in this town who make these rules up should all be mentally examined.

  5. If pets are confined for just 10 days, why keep Luna until December? Any idiot maggot official at animal control to answer that?????

  6. To scientifically chart the amount of time she has been locked away would prove to the court that Luna is not a risk at all. Jury trial ===ask that fees be denied and set her free. Lawyer (should you have to pay) is a lot less than the fees for her lock- up. Bet there is a lawyer that will represent the facts pro bono.

  7. Why is this puppy still behind bars if she hasn’t shown signs of rabies after approx 10 weeks, when any symptoms would have appeared within 10 days. This should have been taken to a judge or someone, especially now that the family has some sort of funding, use that for an attorney. Maybe moving the dog to a vet would be a good idea, he would see there is no symptoms-BUT ONLY IF THEY HAVE A LAWYER, to help get the puppy out. Don’t put the pup to sleep-I hope that is not what they are thinking,

  8. Don’t you think these ‘authorities’ would KNOW by now if Luna had been infected? This is the absolute dumbest thing I have ever heard – makes no sense whatsoever – SEND LUNA HOME – she is being held hostage and why should the family be held responsible for boarding costs???? Something is very unorthodox here – Luna did nothing wrong yet she is being held prisoner. That completely sucks.

  9. Enough of this stupidity, give the puppy back to these people and stop holding the poor thing hostage. I don’t know what the reasoning behind this is, it’s been far longer than 10 days and this is bordering on absurdity! They are just bilking money out of these poor people who just want to give this puppy a good, loving home!

  10. This is still so STUPID!!!! How can they even remotely think this is right!!!! This has got to STOP!!! That puppy does NOT have rabies and needs to be sent home with her family!!!!!! IDIOTS!!!!

  11. This is just plain cruelty to that poor dog please don’t stop trying to get the dog back start a go fund me page if you have to I would be the first to donate I feel sorry for your family and this poor pup being locked up please don’t give up fight

  12. These pet owners are as moronic as the officials holding their little dog hostage… They need to get an authority on rabies and about bats and the incubation period of rabies and go to the State University that has a vet school and their teaching Vets can/ will educate the nitwits that are causing this debacle !!!! Now I suppose the also very strange pet owners will decide to put heir little pet down because of costs!!!

  13. Who made the decision to extend the normal ten days until DECEMBER? This is utter bullshit! Prayers to Luna and her family, please continue to fight for her freedom. Do not stop the fight for her!!

  14. I have been trying to get an update on Luna’s status. The fundraiser has been idle. Not much money donated. I hope they didn’t give up on her?

  15. if the bat had rabies and couldn’t find his way out he may be suffering from rabies its an advanced nuro disease thats why they stumble around. but it was able to navigate back out side it was healthy. rabies in the united states is rare . all dogs have traces of rabies vac so what the hell is the prob? you could have by the same reasoning quarantined the family? the pup has his mothers milk she was amuned from inoculation.
    they over shot it.
