A newborn baby in Cleveland, Ohio, is dead after a family’s dog escaped from a barricaded area and attacked. According to Cleveland.com, the 14-day-old baby, identified as Sophia Booth, was in a bedroom when the German shepherd got loose on Friday evening and bit her on the head. The baby was transported to an area hospital where she died from head trauma.

Tommy Varga, a neighbor, told News 5 Cleveland that the dog was “like a junkyard dog” who was known to be aggressive. Reporters were told that the dog in question was often kept outside.

The local animal control agency was called to the home and removed the four-year-old shepherd. No word on whether or not charges will be filed over this tragic incident.

  1. That poor child. This is truly heartbreaking.

    Dog’s fault? NO!!

If you keep your dog in the yard and show him or her little or no love, this is often the result when you bring children into the mix. Dogbite a*****s will have yet one more field day blaming the dog and not the humans who never should have had a dog and were probably also equally unfit to raise a child.

I hope the dog is given a chance and isn’t killed. It isn’t his or her fault that the humans involved had no business having a dog and were careless, irresponsible, and heartless.

  2. Maybe if they would have socialized the dog this would not have happened. So sorry the baby died and the parents will have to live with that for the rest of their lives but socialize your animals people, treat them like a member of the family and they will behave like that!

  3. How horrible and where were the parents when their dog attacked to baby? Was the dog near the baby before this and nothing happened, so they figured it was ok? Dogs do not distinguish between a baby and the noise is makes, which may have happened here. Sad all around and something is missing if this dog is “a junkyard dog known to be aggressive”, why would they have the dog in the house?

  4. FIRST OFF……….I am very sorry for your loss……………..however……..
Once again, stupid owners who REFUSE or do not know how to socialize a dog….WHY would you have a pet in the house, with a child that was not social!?!??!?! So….now the dog will most likely be put down because she/he was never trained. DO NOT HAVE A PET if they are NOT a family member!

  5. It’s the same old,”dogs and babies” don’t mix, they should be kept apart. Yes this was probably an “accident” but if a baby is in a crib or bassinet in another room, one has to wonder how the dog got to her. Such a tragic loss of a child and most likely the dog will be put down too.

  6. OK lets blame the dog who was most likely ignored, treated like trash, not socialized and kept outside – the real blame is right these parents heads – but if they had treated the dog like a family member and paid attention to it, this would never have happened – this poor dog will probably be euthanized for something that was no fault of his own –
