An investigation is underway after a baby boy died in Crosby Township, Ohio. According to Cinncinati.com, the two-month-old baby boy died overnight – his mother claims that the infant suffocated when the family dog sat on him.

The infant has been identified as Haze Goins – he was pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital. It was the baby’s mother who frantically phoned 9-1-1 just after 3 a.m. to report that the baby was blue and not breathing.

According to the mom, who is not identified, the dog, identified as a possibly pregnant pit bull mix, sat on the infant and caused him to stop breathing. The dog has been taken to the SPCA Cincinnati where she will undergo a veterinary exam.

Mike Retzlaff, vice president of operations at the animal shelter, stated, “Our officer said it was a little skittish, scared, not knowing was going on. It was not aggressive at all.”

    • Pit bulls are very affectionate. They will sleep on their people, in whole or in part. I am sure the mama dog did not mean to do any harm, if she was in fact involved. Read about Jessica Biel’s pit bull Tina, whom she refers to as her “55 pound blanket” it’s just how they are.

  1. I’m not buying this story. So, why wasn’t the baby in a crib? If he’d been sleeping there, the dog couldn’t have gotten to him. If the baby wasn’t in a crib and couldn’t be monitored because the parents are also sleeping, then the dog shouldn’t have been in the same room. The solution is to watch the baby AND the dog. I pray this sweet dog isn’t killed.

  2. Horrible tragedy. Poor child.
Yet, somethings is fishy about that. Wonder if it’s just me or does anybody else thinks that too.
I hope police will look at caregivers before putting down the dog. The scenario offered by mother just doesn’t sound right…

  3. Where was this 2 month old child that the pregnant dog sat on him? Something is fishy about this story. Taken to SPCA, dog not aggressive but scared. Full investigation into this before they do anything to this pregnant dog. Maybe parent did something by accident and rather than admit to it, blame the dog? Police should definitely investigate this from all angles.

      • Absolutely! This ‘story’ is a bunch of bullshit perpetrated by parents who are trying to blame a dog – if this kid was in a crib there is no way the dog could have done this – this story is so full of holes and I hope authorities see through it and not punish an innocent animal for the lies and cover up these people are trying to pull.

  4. I agree, the dog is being used as an excuse. Where was the baby? On the floor while the parents slept? I hope the cops see through the excuse and the dog isn’t destroyed, just spayed & rehomed after her delivery.

  5. sure , blame it on the loving dog because he knows he cant tell on his owners.
who killed the baby while drunk off their ass

    • Shouldn’t a 2 month old baby belong in a crib? If so how could a pregnant pittie mix jump the crib? My theory the baby wasn’t in the crib perhaps in bed with mom or left unattended elsewhere.

  6. Some IS fishy here! Why wasn’t the baby is a crib!? The parents did something here and are blaming the dog, maybe they rolled over on the baby while they were sleeping and suffocated the baby. I think that is what REALLY happened here. I hope the dog here gets a fair consideration out of this and not put down for some bad parenting that seems to be going on here.

  7. Something about this story not believable. The animal is friendly, not aggressive and scared due to she was dragged from her home to the pound. How was it that the dog was able to lay on the baby, if the child should of been in a crib. I get the feeling the parent are negligent big time, possibly the child suffer in their hands and threw the blame on the dog, who cant defend herself. I hope there will be a thorough investigation and an autopsy to find the actual cause of death.

  8. This is a massive lie by the family. It is indeed obvious that the family did this to the baby and they are trying to place the blame on the poor dog.It is highly obvious that the family are liars and the dog DID NOT do this!

  9. If the authorities take the word of these extremely questionable people!!!! and the poor dog is destroyed that would be SO unjust!!! this is a Bull Diarrhea Story and the dog is the toilet paper!!!

  10. This story doesn’t make sense. Where was the baby that this dog could have “sat” on it and suffocated him? At 3:00am in the morning, did the mother even know what had happened to her baby. I don’t think the dog needs to be blamed for this, something isn’t right with their story.

  11. And once again due to HUMAN neglect, not socializing, etc….. an animal will probably pay with its life. Horrible about the baby….but why was the baby NOT IN A CRIB OR BASSINETTE?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

  12. Hmmm!!! I find this story very, very suspicious, not so sure this is what happened to this baby! Why would a newborn be sleeping out of a crib, was he on the floor unattended, was he sleeping in the bed with the mom and dog? Something not right here!!! Poor baby and poor dog…..both so innocent and helpless! I’m thinking we have not heard the last of this suspicious story! ????????RIP Haze????????

  13. By all means, lets blame the dog. Better look at the parents Bet they find a way to put the dog down. God only knows how much I hate HUMANS

  14. So Where was the baby sleeping? The baby should have been sleeping in a crib. He was 2 months old. Not much information in the article. I do not believe the dog caused the death. I think the parents had a hand in the death of the baby.
