When a mostly non-verbal toddler wandered away from his Saucier, Mississippi, home last week, his faithful dog never left his side. According to WBTV News, two-year-old William Odom was lost for several hours last Tuesday – multiple agencies participated in a search of the area.

There was evidence along the way that the lost little boy was never completely alone. Harrison County Sheriff Troy Peterson explained, “Every time we found his footprint, we found the dog footprint right beside him. So the dog traveled with him all day.”

Eventually, the lost child was found sleeping in a truck which was parked not far from his home – of course, his devoted companion was nearby. Sheriff Peterson stated, “When the little boy was found the dog was still circling the truck and scratching on the truck.”

The child was not harmed and foul play isn’t suspected – little William and his dog were safely returned to their worried family.

According to a subsequent news release, the child’s mother was charged with misdemeanor child neglect and arrested for improperly watching the little boy.

  1. The dog is a better “mother” to this child than the person who gave birth to him – who is obviously not “mother” material. Good dog!

    • Absolutely! This dog has more brains, compassion, care and soul that this so called ‘mother’ sure has. She could learn a serious lesson from the dog.

    • Great point! Should be arrested for failure to watch her dog as well Not a good pet parent nor human parent. Irresponsible! She shouldn’t have children nor pets !
