It was on Sunday morning that the RSPCA in Liverpool received a call from two women who had been walking through a skate park and spotted a red fox in the bottom of the concrete bowl shaped structure. The fox had desperately been trying over and over to climb his way out.

“The fox was really struggling to get out; every time he ran up the side he slid back down again,” Claire Fisher, an inspector with the RSPCA, said in a press release. “He was trying so hard to free himself that he got exhausted.”

By the time Claire arrived, she said the fox had curled himself up in the bottom of the bowl as if he had given up. So quietly the animal welfare officer slipped down towards the bottom and carefully netted the little guy. Admittedly it was even difficult for Claire to climb out.

“Thankfully the fox wasn’t injured by his ordeal, just very tired, but he managed to find the energy to run away as fast as he could out of the net. I was a little bit worried he’d run straight back into the bowl but he ran in the opposite direction – understandably!,” Claire stated as she watched the fox make it as far away from the skate park as possible.

Thankfully the little guy was uninjured and back where he belongs.

The RSPCA urges anyone who sees an animal which needs rescuing to contact the charity’s 24-hour helpline on 0300 1234 999.
