A partially paralyzed, elderly dog was abandoned by two people and left to die outside of an animal shelter in Bedford, New Hampshire. According to the Bedford Police Department, someone dropped the senior golden retriever outside of the Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire (ARL), 545 Rt. 101, on Sunday night – nobody found her until the shelter opened on Monday morning.
The old dog was in poor health and she was unable to walk. In the Union Leader, Maureen Prendergast, director of outreach and investigation at the Bedford Animal Rescue League, commented on the heartbreaking situation which could be seen on surveillance video:
“You could see the dog wag her tail a little bit. Here is this sweet soul completely innocent and then you watch her crawling after the couple and following them as they leave; she wanted to go with them.”
After a veterinarian examined the elderly dog it was determined that humane euthanasia was the only option. “This is an extremely disturbing case where an innocent animal was abandoned and left to die,” Chief Bryfonski said. “We are encouraging anyone with information about this incident or who may have seen something to give us a call right away.”
Police are searching for a white male and a white female who were driving a blue, four-door sedan. Anyone with information about this incident or either of these two suspects should immediately contact the Bedford Police Department at 603-472-5113.
