A partially paralyzed, elderly dog was abandoned by two people and left to die outside of an animal shelter in Bedford, New Hampshire. According to the Bedford Police Department, someone dropped the senior golden retriever outside of the Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire (ARL), 545 Rt. 101, on Sunday night – nobody found her until the shelter opened on Monday morning.

The old dog was in poor health and she was unable to walk. In the Union Leader, Maureen Prendergast, director of outreach and investigation at the Bedford Animal Rescue League, commented on the heartbreaking situation which could be seen on surveillance video:

“You could see the dog wag her tail a little bit. Here is this sweet soul completely innocent and then you watch her crawling after the couple and following them as they leave; she wanted to go with them.”

After a veterinarian examined the elderly dog it was determined that humane euthanasia was the only option. “This is an extremely disturbing case where an innocent animal was abandoned and left to die,” Chief Bryfonski said. “We are encouraging anyone with information about this incident or who may have seen something to give us a call right away.”

Police are searching for a white male and a white female who were driving a blue, four-door sedan. Anyone with information about this incident or either of these two suspects should immediately contact the Bedford Police Department at 603-472-5113.

SMH: Breaks my heart to learn of seniors who are spending their last days in a shelter (afraid and alone AND worst of all, unloved as they die)………

Senior furbabies are treasures…….. I would give anything to have had more time with my precious little treasured prince MacKitty. I can NOT understand how anyone can abandon a senior treasured family member……. WTF is wrong with people???

I am heartbroken to learn this precious furbaby was so badly treated……. POS owners will burn in Hell forever for their cruelty……. just hope they die painfully ASAP……. and in fear……..

I am also heartbroken to learn that this precious furbaby wasn’t given a chance to be rehomed.
I had a quadriplegic MacKitty who is still loved beyond my ability to describe…….. There ARE people out there who WILL adopt disabled companions…….. All of my furbabies have been adopted with me and my husband knowing in advance there were medical issues….. not a problem, you just deal & appreciate each day.

RIP poor precious furbaby. Humans failed you in every way possible……………..

So sad. Where’s the compassion and empathy for this senior pup.? Obviously, the POS who abandoned this dog had non. The dog must have been ill for a long time and the owner failed to get medical attention, allowing the dog’s health to further deteriorate. I can just imagine how much this dog suffered. The human trash that left this dog to die should spend some time in jail. RIP Goldie, you’re free to run forever.

SO, this precious soul spent her last night on earth – surrounded not by the comfort and loving arms of her family, but desperately crawling after them as they abandoned her and fled?
There is a special place in HELL for those two… and they’ll keep the fires burning there, ’til they arrive!
Rest-in-peace, precious girl – reborn, whole, and free… surrounded by those who love you, and soon to be joined at the Bridge by those of us who never had that wondrous opportunity….

I’m at work but I still nearly broke down and sobbed while reading that she tried to crawl after her family. I’m currently dealing with a senior Lab whose hindquarters are getting weaker and weaker. She had an episode this morning where I thought I was going to have to call the mobile vet to come and put her down. The one thing I would NEVER do is abandon her in her time of need.

Such a shame that she could not have had just a few days of love and care before euthanasia. Just a concentrated effort to reassure her and for her to feel love before saying goodbye. Bless her.

This is so despicable! Senior dogs are my favorite and when I no longer have the three seniors that I have now I will adopt a couple more! They are more costly to care for as their health declines but are worth every cent! This is truly deploreable and I really hope that these two heartless, cold blooded, cruel jerks are quickly identified! I so wish this poor sad, heartbroken dog could of went into a hospice foster home, sweet baby deserved so much better in her final days!

      I agree with you……

My husband and I specifically adopt “medically fragile” animals and provide whatever they need, including chemotherapeutic treatment, physical rehabilitation……
We have had several animals with heart conditions, blind, quadriplegic, cancer, epilepsy….. we are NOT afraid of dealing with health care…….
I am sorry this treasure wasn’t given any chance of being rehomed.

Rescued is my fave breed and they are all special treasures who want to love and be loved……

Too cheap to pay to have their pet put to sleep? Most likely! I don’t care what their excuse is, this is NOT how you treat your elderly pet! How does someone leave their pet like this to die!

These inhumane assholes who treat animals like trash are bottom of the barrel – may the rest of their useless lives be one of poverty, suffering and long lasting pain – and someone treats them like they treated that poor dog – cruelly.

I think a rescue group should have been contacted…seems like this dog had more life to live. Shame on the place for hastily putting this animal down and god help the despicable black hearts that betrayed and abandoned this old gal in this heartless manner. I’d like to kick them in the face for doing this to her!
