The Harris County Animal Shelter rescued an elderly dog who had been living with her deceased owner “for weeks.” According to the Facebook page of the Harris County Animal Shelter Pets in Need, deputies with the sheriff’s department found the body of a dead man in the home on Firesage Drive in Humble on Sunday after neighbors called authorities and asked if they could do a welfare check on the older man. People in the area had been worried after not hearing or seeing the man for weeks.

A 13-year-old greyhound dog in “good health” was found in the home and brought to the shelter. Click here for her Pet Harbor listing.

“I am a female, black and white Sighthound. The shelter staff think I am about 9 years old. I have been at the shelter since Nov 19, 2017.” For more information about this animal, call Harris County Public Health and Environmental Services at (281) 999-3191. Ask for information about animal ID number A497677.

The dog had not been given a name, and was listed to be on a six-day hold pending members of the family coming to claim her. On Monday evening, however the news announcement made everyone smile:

“497677 UPDATE: SO HAPPY to report she left with a rescue today!

Video shot SUNDAY 11/19. INTAKE: brought in 11/19. Such a sad story… Owner died about a month ago. This dog has been home with their deceased owner for a month. Owners body was just found today so pup was brought to shelter.”

One dog off to a rescue organization, but there are still many beautiful pets who need to share the same kind of fortune. Check out the  Harris County Animal Shelter  located in Houston, Texas:

  1. he looks very sad.
    he’s been thru alot.
he may think he died and went to heaven tomorrow..
when he’s sitting on some other man’s couch
as he pets his head and pulls him close
so he can feel the warmth of a new care takers body close to him.
good nite skinny sad little grayhound.
tomorrow is a brand new day.
you wont be hungry or lonely anymore your with friends now.

  2. Thank God a rescue came through for this dog – Texas, being the state that has little to no concern for animals stuck in its piss poor shelters would have put her down in a heartbeat. This state needs a massive wake up call since its lousy treatment of animals is well known.
