Elderly dog lost home because family had a baby
Spread the love

An elderly dog, 15 years of age, has been surrendered to a busy (and crowded!!) California animal control – the reason for the betrayal? His family had a baby…apparently at their house, it’s out with the old, and in with the new.

Today Dewey is trying to make sense of his mixed up world. Gone are all things familiar – now he is surrounded by a plethora of new smells and loud barks and cries from other distressed dogs. Dewey will not see a familiar face approach his kennel run, and he will not hear a voice that he knows calling out to him.

Dewey is an elderly dog who needs a helping hand – few people walk through busy animal control agencies seeking a senior dog. Please help Dewey find a loving owner who wants to spoil him for the rest of his days.

  1. Some one please rescue this elderly dog. I live in Texas
I would love to take in this dog. I have a 17 yr old lab.iwould never do this to her.

  2. How could a “family” do such a heartless thing to this poor old boy? There’s almost a sad wisdom to his face. Can’t a rescue or someone help this poor boy to live out the last days of his life in comfort and love??? Karma to the POS family that did this to him

  3. This is done a lot. People have babies and get rid of their animals. This to me , means they never loved their animal and if you don’t love your animal, you should never own one. They aren’t property or an old toy to just be thrown away. Jesus, this sickens me. Damn them. Good luck to this senior dog; prayers for him!

  4. Does that mean that when the baby gets older the family will get rid that it too baby’s need dogs to show them love

    • I bet they WILL do the same to their baby. That’s how we end up having so many teenagers that parents don’t give a dam about. They will not be able to do it legally because there are no high kill shelters for teenagers but if there would be that’s where this new baby would end up.

  5. Please everyone share share share this video…..my heart is breaking for what that family did to this baby…..Dewey game them the biggest part of his life and now 15 years later they put him in a high kill rate Shelter….is you know some in Valifornis, please share this so Dewey can live out his yesrs in a home filled with love…I hope who put him there has nightmares because of this….I know that’s not nice but it wasn’t nice what they did to Dewey

  6. Another “stellar” family dumping your 15 year old dog because of a baby, I don’t know how I was able to raise 2 babies with a dog in the house, And Carson, the perfect place to be rid of your dog! Good going loving family (sarcasm)! Sharing and praying for Dewey.

  7. My ex brother-in-law and his wife did the same thing many years ago. They treated that dog like their child until a human baby came along. They just abandoned the dog – emotionally initially and then literally.

  8. This really p***es me off! I had my dog, Misty, before having my first daughter. They were the best of friends. I got pregnant with daughter #2, and it hit me that I was going to have a 2-year-old and newborn to take care of, and I worried I wouldn’t have as much time for Misty. I adopted a second dog – Muffie – to be not only a member of the family, but a friend for Misty. It was the best decision of my life. All three of my daughters grew up with dogs and cats and now all three of them have furbabies of their own. I just want to slap anyone who dumps their four-legged baby just because they’re having a two-legged one.

  9. Penny Eims could you be more specific? A human or a fur baby. If your going to write an article such as this one PLEASE BE MORE SPECIFIC!!!!

      • OMG, people aren’t entitled to mistakes. Regarding the other story? On face book it was mentioned it was his pet dog. Cheryl and I have chatted on this subject and she mentioned it may have been his grandmother’s dog but not confirmed as yet. OK??????

      • Linda, so glad to know you never make mistakes. Thank you for correcting the rest of us when we do.

      • Barley’s Mom I guess you didn’t read my comment correctly. So sorry you didn’t read it correctly.

      • Linda, you said “People aren’t entitled to mistakes” how am I supposed to read that? So sorry if I am reading this wrong.

      • Linda, had you put a ? after your statement “people aren’t entitled to mistakes” it would have been a little more clear, sorry for any confusion on my part. .

    • Linda, I just saw a comment on another post criticizing Cheryl Hanna for not having facts strait. Do you have a vendetta against these two columnists? May be if you are so perfect you should start writing these stories. I also call my dogs my babies but I think it’s pretty clear here that Penny was referring to a human child and you are just nit picking.

  10. URGENT. … Lui trouver une vraie famille pour ses derniers jours, cette âme innocente a encore beaucoup d’amour à donner. MERCI.

  11. Heartbroken for this precious little man. I wish I were in LA…….

Hope a local can save him. He deserves to be in a loving home…….

  12. This is the most Craziest thing I ever Heard of. Just because your having a Baby does not mean Give up tour Elderly Dog. Karma will get you for doing this to this sweet Dog. I Hate Stupid People that don’t think.

  13. GOD, PLEASE BLESS THIS BEAUTIFUL DEWEY WITH WONDERFUL LOVING FOREVER HOME AND A HEALTHY BODY!!!! AMEN!!!!!!

  14. If only those people would understand how this feels from the dog’s end! That dog would love that baby! Some people are so ignorant!! PLEASE DON’T throw your dog away like an old chair! They have hearts and feelings just like we do! Well MOST of us that is.:((

  15. How do I get a rescue to help me ????? I will bring him to Idaho. And give him blankets to snuggle. Life not fair. But I’m here. Help me

    • Pam, have you heard from anyone? Please call the shelter & get some advice on how to get this precious ball of fur….I have been worried sick & praying for Dewey.

    • I am so sorry for your loss.

My husband and I adopt old and special needs animals (so sadly, we lose them far too soon, although truthfully, one is NEVER prepared to say goodbye to a loved one {human or furbaby})…..

19 years is AMAZING (clearly you took GREAT care of your furbaby)!!!!!

I agree with you totally when you say you would give anything to be with your furbaby again…… I feel the same about our precious furbabies who are in Heaven……..

These POS who dumped their 15 year old furbaby deserve lots of pain and suffering in their lives (& hopefully they end up dumped in a terrible situation when they are old and unable to care for themselves)…….
