An East Harlem dog owner faces animal cruelty and torture charges after his Bichon Frise’s paw fell off because of lack of grooming. On Monday, Kenneth Hill, 25, arrived at the Animal Medical Center holding his dog in one hand and dog’s front right paw in the other hand- which had completely separated from the suffering dog’s leg. According to DNAInfoNY, the examining veterinarian stated the paw fell off because of the extreme matting which had cut off all blood circulation to the 15-year-old dog’s paw.

The dog named Snow was matted over his entire body, was underweight, smelled badly and his nails had not been trimmed for an extended period of time.

“I haven’t been grooming him because he doesn’t like to be groomed. I have my own manner of grooming,” Hill reportedly told authorities.

Hill has been charged with  aggravated cruelty to animals, causing extreme physical pain and overdriving, torturing and injuring an animal. Bond was set at $5,000.

Snow has been transferred to the ASPCA in New York where he is recovering. To donate to Snow and help other victims of abuse and neglect, please click here.

  1. There is NO excuse for this! My dogs hate having their nails trimmed, so when they fight me, I take them to the vet’s office to have it done (a good time to get a weigh-in so I can monitor that). I have short-haired dogs, so grooming is easy. My mom had two Cockers, though, and they had to be groomed pretty often. I’ve seen some pretty matted dogs (and cats) since getting involved in rescue, but never to this extent. I just can’t wrap my head around how someone can just watch a dog suffer.

  2. There are those who have no business having animals! This thing is one of those! Are you kidding? I think it is time for punishments to match the crimes!

  3. Guess what, ahole? I have a long haired dog whom I have groomed once a year. I brush his hair REGULARLY to make certain there are no mats anywhere on his handsome body! If he didn’t like having me do his nails, I’d take him into his vet’s to have them done (which I’ve done in the past).

This is NOT rocket science! It isn’t hard to do!

Putting a tourniquet on one of his extremities would be in order here., then lock him up and throw away the key..

  4. I had a poodle for 17 years, I clipped him myself, and did his nails. there is NO excuse for what that poor dog suffered. do the same thing to the owner.

  5. OMG!! I have read about similar cases, talk about stupid and cruel!! Unfortunately the work is full of idiot jerks like this! I hope and pray that Snow will quickly recover and that this fool go to jail, but I doubt that he will be punished in any meaningful way!

  6. So Kenneth Hill’s manner of ‘grooming’ is to neglect it until it is too late – what a jerk off!! If you will not or don’t know how to groom a dog w/long hair, don’t get one. Snow deserved MUCH better than to be owned by such an idiot. I hope he recovers and never has to see this piss poor excuse for an owner again.

  7. Are you effing kidding me? OMG. Poor Snow, you suffered at the hands of that POS for 15 years??? I hope he rots in Hell.

  8. REALLY??? An abuser walks in, with this horribly abused animal and his bail is only $5,000? WAKE THE HECK UP PEOPLE!!! This horrid treatment has got to stop!! But the police, courts and judges HAVE TO DO THEIR PART!!!
