Jersey was brought into the North Central Shelter in Los Angeles, California as a stray on August 19.  The seven-year-old dog has been bred over and over again. Mammary tumors have developed; her neglect is heartbreaking. How does it come to be that a Harlequin Great Dane isn’t noticed by her family when she disappears? No one has come for her – she does have a microchip and her owner was notified.

Click here for Jersey’s PetHarbor listing: “My name is Jersey and I am an unaltered female, white and black Great Dane. The shelter thinks I am about 7 years old. I weigh approximately 80 pounds. I have been at the shelter since Aug 19, 2017.” For more information about this animal, call:
Los Angeles Animal Services – North Central Shelter at (888) 452-7381. Ask for information about animal ID number A1723167.

According to Jersey’s medical information, she is slightly underweight, her back legs are extremely week and she will need to be evaluated by a veterinarian for removal and subsequent treatment of the tumors. Advocates are pledging funds to help with Jersey’s medical needs.

  1. Find these owners and legally force them to pay for all her treatments so that she can be adopted by a family who cares about her. They made their money off of her in the thousands, now it is payback time for this poor dog. I am certain a judge would agree to something like this.

    • How I would love that! This is a very poor neighborhood so I doubt the people could afford to pay her vet bills. No doubt they made money off of her puppies, though.

  2. Since she has a chip the owners are known – they did not care one bit about this dog – she was used for their backyard breeding and put out when she could no longer produce – I certainly hope this shelter follows up, gets these scumbags arrested and find this beautiful dog a safe loving home. She has been neglected and suffered enough, it is time these trashbag owners suffer.

    • We won’t know that for sure unless they respond to the letter from the shetler. People move and forget to change their animal’s microchip information. We would love for the owner to show up for prosecution!

    • Agreed. Because of that, I doubt any owner will appear. The shelter sends a letter when they don’t get a response by phone. Sadly, people move and forget to change their contact information on their microchips for their pets.

  3. So that is the third dog that came from the same owner with the same story (over breeding) within a year… I don’t know how it works but looks like there is no such thing as breeding licence… I wonder what are the steps to create legislation for these kind of licences … or improve it if it already exist. There SHOULD be some kind of a law created and the ways to enforce it to persecute this kind of breeding that brings a THIRD dog within a year into a shelter. Or am I just a dreamer?

    • We can’t prove this dog is from the same owner but she is the 3rd dog to come into this shelter in this bad condition (from over breeding and neglect), since Dec 2016. All 3 dogs were bred to death so clearly there is a POS breeder in the area.

  4. I rescued an 8 year old female Dane in the same condition almost 2 years ago, even thinner and sick with a respiratory infection. She was and still is too frail for spaying surgery, but she put on weight and has some of her muscle mass back and is a happy girl now. I hope someone does the same for this one, they do well after having mammory tumors removed (mine did).

    • Jersey is on a 10 day microchip hold to give her owner a chance to reclaim her. The moment she is available, she will be pulled and taken straight to the vet. She will have surgery as soon as the vet approves it. Unfortunately, the tumor could be malignant. We probably won’t’ know until the surgery.

      • I cried out in the nite and you were there thank you.
im the only person in the world whos never been on face book because i dont know how to.
and i didnt really know if there was a breed specific great Dane rescue, and i said in in panic.
thank you for answering my prayers Cathy Larimer

  5. The LOUSY excuse of owners should be fined for the condition she is in and for NOT coming for her….it is probably best, it is evident they do not know how to properly love and care for an animal. FINE them A LOT!!!!

  6. I just dont understand this poor dog was bred an bred untill she couldnt produce any more puppies to sell then her heartless bastard of an owner dumped her why are the police not charging them THIS DOG WAS CHIPPED so they know who they are or is it that they just dont bloody care more interested in traffic violations i expect what a bloody shame.
