In Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, a drunk Chihuahua was rushed to a Pittsburgh area emergency veterinarian after he was discovered lapping up vodka and showing signs of alcohol poisoning. According to WtaeNews, Thomas Bloedel, 44, of Mount Lebanon was found Thursday afternoon behind the wheel of his car in Bethel Park; his little Chihuahua named Maxwell had been by his side.

When Bethel Police arrived on the scene, Bloedel threatened to shoot and kill officers before being arrested. Authorities stated the man seemed heavily intoxicated. As for Maxwell, the adorable little dog had a close encounter of the worst kind:

“A gentleman was intoxicated in a car and I guess had vodka in the car that spilled and Maxwell got into it and drank some,” explained the dog’s veterinarian, Dr. Dimitri Brown. “Evidence of poisoning from the alcohol; he was stumbling around like a person who was drunk. His pupils were dilated.”

Fortunately Dr. Brown was able to help, and by the evening, the dog was back to acting like a normal pooch and has not shown any lingering signs of his dangerous encounter with alcohol.

Bloedel remains at the Allegheny County Jail and faces charges of DUI, terroristic threats and animal cruelty. It is not known if Maxwell would be returned to his owner.

  1. Stupidity thy name is human! Enough with these ignorant things masquerading like they have brains! That poor little kid could have died!

  2. Let’s hope Maxwell doesn’t get returned to his owner, the owner isn’t fit to take care of a slug let alone a little dog! Another incident that will be blamed on being “intoxicated”. I suppose it was because he was drunk he “threatened to shoot and kill officers before being arrested” and some scum bag lawyer will make excuses for him and get him off with a slap on the wrist! I hope Maxwell finds a new loving home, he doesn’t need to be poisoned again by this moron!

    • Works for me Edward Nagle – this maggot needs a real heavy dose of street justice. Thankfully, Maxwell was rescued and definitely needs a new home.

  3. I find it hard to believe the dog was lapping vodka, but, his POS owner forced him to drink it! Dogs do not like the smell of alcohol!

    • I was thinking it may have been a very long time since he was offered water to drink to be “lapping up” vodka. He may have been really thirsty. Poor baby. I hope he finds a better family to live with.

  4. sorry folks but he will be returned to his owner.
the only law he broke was getting caught driving drunk.
    the rest is just opinion.

  5. These stories amaze me. Why would any court every consider returning an animal to someone that gave that animal alcohol poisoning. I hope this judge has a brain.

    • it may be better to give the dog back and make the owner do better in the future then to take the dog and put him in a kill ( animal controll) shelter. the real solution would be remove the car if he dosnt strighten up and fly right.
      The 2- of them.

      • Speaking the “truth” and “enlightening” us again? This POS poisoned his dog, I’d say the dog has a better chance at the shelter, even if it is a “kill” shelter you can’t “make” someone do better! He faces DUI and terrorist threat charges, hopefully he will be in jail for awhile, The dog needs a good home, this POS isn’t going to “straighten up and fly right” anytime soon!

      • Maybe instead of speaking for the dog barkley why dont you ask the dog what he would rather do.
Stay with a first time offender an alcholic inn a colossal drunken rage. Or take its chances in a high kill animal controll center. a chi, the second most destroyed animal after pitt bulls and shepards.
What do you think Maxwell would Want barkley?
Maxwell is a big Boy. hes been taking care of this man for quite some time now.
Try Not To ruine Maxwells life Barkleys Mom.
        With your terrable, terrable advice.

      • Really? Maxwell is a big boy taking care of “his” man? What kind of world do you live in, I highly doubt this is a “first time offender” and since when is it the dog’s responsibility to “take care of his man”. Where do you come up with this drivel? Maxwell’s life is already ruined, who is taking care of him while his “upstanding” drunken, police threatening “Man” is in jail? Maxwell deserves a loving stable home, not a life traveling with his drunken “Man” that you “THINK” might ever be worth anything.

      • well barkleys mom ,
i guess i live in the same world as the athorities who have already givin the dog back.
to its bonded human and drinking body.
But i wouldnt worry about it cause the system works and hes in the system.
And that is how the real world works. With or with out you.
        You need to relax.

      • You’re right, the system works for the POS that harmed his dog. After all it’s only a dog, a possession, not a living being that can be harmed. I find no report of the dog being returned, but you know it ALL so I’m sure it is true. And excuse me if I don’t LIKE the way your “real world” works!
