Over a dozen dogs died in a deadly Monday night house fire in Grand Prairie, Texas, reported NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth. A woman was injured while trying to save pets who were inside of the house on the 500 block of Northeast Fourth Street – she was transported to a hospital for treatment, but is expected to be okay.

Though Grand Prairie Firefighters were able to rescue six dogs from the blaze, 13 dogs, and some birds perished. According to Fox 4 News, the woman works at a veterinary clinic and is known to rescue animals.

The cause of the deadly blaze remains under investigation – there is speculation that a charging vacuum cleaner could be to blame.

  1. There’s nothing worse than fire! To lose even one is traumatic never mind losing 13 plus the birds! I’m glad they were able to save the ones they did!

  2. RIP to the dogs who perished. This is probably my biggest fear about my dogs; that they will perish in a fire that might happen while I’m at work or gone for some other reason. I have a sticker on my door that indicates there are pets in the house but that might not be enough. 🙁

  3. One of my worst fears is a home fire, although, I am cautious(I even unplug my phone charger when not in use)I am always hoping my neighbors are just as careful. My neighbor upstairs caused a kitchen fire brought down the burning trash barrel down the stairs and out the door. Needless to say I chewed her ass out! I own 3 dogs. My thoughts? What if I were not at home and the fire had spread.
