Early Saturday morning in South Yorkshire, United Kingdom, Alan Webster of the volunteer Yorkshire Pet Ambulance service had been doing a fundraising activity when he spotted an elderly dog abandoned in a cold, wet field near Oldcotes Car open market. She was left alone – cold, shivering and afraid; chances are she had been dumped the night before or even longer. Next to the dog named Tessa, were all of her belongings – a blanket, a plastic bag full of food and water and a note.

“The dog was so cold and so upset that we put a tin of rice pudding on using a stove in our van and it downed the lot. It’s totally, totally wrong that someone’s abandoned an old dog like this,” Webster posted on the organization’s Facebook page.

The note left with Tessa was stated:

“The dog Tessa is 12 years old and is not my dog. My neighbor told me that Tessa is chipped. My neighbor asked if I would take charge of Tessa as my neighbor has planned a new life in Canada. Reluctantly I said yes but I know I will not keep Tessa. Tessa likes tea, coffee and watered milk. Tessa’s first meal is a 11:30 am. My neighbor has now gone to Canada. My neighbor was happy thinking Tessa is good hands.

Sorry for the above but I don’t need a dog.”

When found, Tessa had been resting on the soaking wet blanket, but it doing better since her rescue. Hundreds of people have sent messages with offers to help as well as multiple adoption offers.

“We wish to thank everyone for their interest in the abandoned dog this morning – it’s impossible to reply to everyone in person.
At the moment she is at the vets and we will update everyone as soon as we know more.
Regards Alan”

Hopefully Tessa’s veterinary exam will go well and she will be transferred to Netherlands Kennels on Kilnhurst Road in Rotherham for adoption.

  1. The owner couldn’t take Tessa to Canada with them? Instead they leave her with a moron! There are better ways of disposing of an unwanted dog then just leaving them to fend for themselves in a field with a note! I’m glad someone responsible found Tessa, prayers she finds a loving home!

    • Don’t judge the person that left her in the field…they tried to do their duty and their duty was too much for them so they left her in a highly visible area with all of her favorite things, food plus a note to let people know a bit about her habits and her likes…surely doesn’t sound like a moron Barkley’s Mom…this is much better then putting her in a garbage bag and tossing her off a bridge or killing her cruely just to be done with her like most other unwanteds… Every story of animal cruelty is aweful and hard to take so let’s all do our best to look out for abuse and do what we can to stop it.

      • Yes and why was taking her to a shelter NOT a better idea. You want to condone this behavior go ahead, but I find it unacceptable no matter what spin you put on it! Sorry, any one who leaves a defenseless dog in a field in hopes she will be found and saved is as far as I am concerned is a MORON! And you wanting me to condone such behavior and find is acceptable tells me much about your character too JR.

      • The neighbor knew from the get go he/she had no intentions of keeping Tessa and was cruel to allow the owner believing she was in good hands. To leave Tessa out in the field alone, cold and wet is cruel. The POS and HEARTLESS neighbor could have brought it to a shelter instead.

      • This neighbor doesn’t fit the profile of an animal abuser. So lets not use the excuse “this is much better than putting her in a garbage bag and tossing her off a bridge or killing her……..”. This neighbor was just a lazy asshole who didn’t want to take the time to look for a home for Tessa or bring her to a shelter.

      • “Tried to do their duty”? They had no intentions of keeping her!!!!! I guess you didn’t read the article.

      • How very very sad that we now compare ways of deciding you do not want a dog and which is better to PUTTING HER IN A GARBAGE BAG. The comparison is between right and wrong, good and evil, humane and inhumane. The dog was left with her blanket and bag of food. Was she supposed to find a safe warm place to snuggle in her blanket and open her food? She was left to fend for herself with no promise someone would find her before she was dead or almost so. Doing what we can to stop abuse and neglect surely is not to praise this person’s actions! She dumped the dog! She disposed of a living being!

  2. I hope they identified her owner, who will then ID the scumbag who did this (if the story is true). Then, if they get the right judge (and that is a HUGE MAYBE), this b***h will be put behind bars where this thing belongs. If she didn’t want Tessa, the LEAST she could have done is take her to a shelter, not leave her out in the cold and wet to possibly starve and die a miserable death, or even worse. The idiot owner, again, if the story is true, SHOULD have taken her dog to Canada. What a couple of scumbags.

  3. omg,
one day she is having warm tea and honey the next day shes shivering wet with all her material posessions.Thank god she took her from the owner who abandoned her for canada, thank god the other lady abandoned her in a public place with a note with history and breakfast rituals and thank god now she has a chance of finding a good family , breaking hearts and then mending them in her lovely new home.

    • You mean thank GOD someone responsible found her before she starved to death or was found by someone who was NOT so nice? The POS that left her in a field didn’t do the right thing by this dog at all!

      • Thank you Barkely’s Mom I was Positively seeing Red when I read the post JR sent!!! I have been trying to find Molly Mule a good home now for weeks to no avail, and finally went out and practically had to beg to buy some more hay… this last year was hell for hay and we had not planned on feeding another “BIG KID” we were lucky and a family that have 4 of our rescue dachshunds… sold us a couple round bales to get us into where we can put them on of field … This monster child has cribbed out corral something terrible and we will survive that , but she chased and tried to paw our big dog Jessie who goes out with Rich all the time… then she took after our little dachshund Chole the other day… our horses are so loving and kind to all cats, dogs, I was taken back so now we are really having to be in crisis mode at all times around her… was not my day and reading that post was the straw that set me off!!! we now have fourteen inches of new very wet snow and were without electricity for 8 hours…. it is still snowing though not as much and we now have electricity… thankfully…. again thank you…

      • pennysdachshund, JR ticked me off big time by coming on here telling us what we should and shouldn’t say about this POS abuser. Good luck with your problem child Molly Mule, she is in good hands. I will pray for Spring for you, I know around here all we have is mud!

  4. Alan, BIG THNX across the Atlantic 4 rescuing this beautiful soul! I F’N hate people sometimes! Anyway, my thoughts r this…THANK God 4 Alan, but sadly, he can’t b ‘EVERYWHERE’ …so let’s ALL keep an eye out 4 our voiceless, innocent & defenseless friends!

  5. I am happy that at least she was somewhere that she could be found and not tied up in the woods where no one would find. Also glad that she is now in better hands than she was handed off to. No dog should be abandoned twice.

  6. EVERYONE NEEDS A NEIGHBOR LIKE THIS INDIVIDUAL be the POS a man or woman…. The COMPLETE ASSHOLE a Character for a STEPHEN KING BOOK !!!!

    • WOW ! so easy to hide behind your keyboard and judge others.
Can you list ten things that you’ve done this year to help an abused or abandoned dog ? Or does the extent of your help go no further than your keyboard.
      Just saying and wondering…
I grew up next to Steven and Tabitha King and I can assure you that his novel would be based on the heartless fuel driven fingerpointing of most of the people on sites like this.

      • For someone who grew up next to the King’s you misspelled his first name. Questionable and laughable!

      • Actually you Mother Fucker! We have 5 rescue horses, and one new addition a Molly Mule which was starving teathered on a 30 foot rope to dirt which she was eating…l we have taken in over 38 dogs and 4 cats in the 25 years of marriage!!! So I think I have to right to say what I think so stick your finger in your_____!!!! YOUR are judging the wrong person…. Maybe King should write a story about U …. a hateful , psychopath …. I have spent thousands on surgeries, food, transportation over the years… in the attempt to help animals… also donated … & driven thousands of miles to deliver and pick up animals… what a prick you are.

      • Almost sounds like JR, you are the POS that left this dog or has done something similar to another so you are trying to justify these despicable actions. You accused the wrong person of “hiding behind her keyboard” penny most likely has done more in one day than you have ever done in your entire life for abused, abandoned animals. You have no right to judge any of us keyboard warriors, as you have know idea what we do away from out keyboards for animal rights! I would say most of us have earned the right to judge someone who does such a disgusting deed!

      • Well we are still LOOKING for a GOOD & CARING person to give her a life long home… come and get her!!!! ha

      • I wish i could give molly a good home.lets tell he story and try to get her a good home thru pet rescue report.

      • I do not have clear title to this little girl::: the owner drives by here daily and sees her in our field eating and happy::: while he has chickens, pony , goats, turkeys, pig on about 1/4 acre of dirt….. after accommodation for his cabin…. a deputy sheriff even lives across the road and has watched the animals getting bread from a surplus warehouse that gives old bread /donuts/away for animal consumption… so there you have it… I have contacted the State Director of Livestock in the Capitol about this and am waiting for a response….

    • Thank you Linda , I was so perturbed to see this individual who has no insight into what anyone else does for mankind and animals of all statures …. I sort of lost it there… as the neighbor WHO abused MOLLY MULE to the point we could no longer take it and took her … is an individual a lot like JR!!! appears to be!!!

      • IKR. I find it amusing the same people who accuse us for being judgmental are quick to judge us to ASSume WE on this site have not rescued, fostered or adopted animals in need. All my cats and dogs have come from shelters and one cat I took in because a POS owner couldn’t tolerate her being in heat and kicked her out. Upon hearing this I went around the neighborhood and found her. Yup she was pregnant with 5 kittens. Luckily I found good homes for all the kittens…….to my immediate family members who are also lovers of ALL animals. Molly Mule you’ve got one fine family.

  7. Another useless POS owner. Hopefully one day when these bastards get old their family dumps them in a cold wet field with their belongs and say they don’t need them anymore either. Subhumans are so damn heartless I just want to beat the living shit out of them and it would make me feel so damn good. The only good humans on this earth are real true animal lovers like all of us on this page. I would never leave my animals behind and if I couldn’t take them I would be staying where I am at.

  8. Sweet Jesus – a major idiot – left this poor dog in a field w/a note – could NOT be bothered to take Tessa to a shelter – another one in line for the wood chipper. I hope this idiot is found. Hogtie this jerk and dump their useless butt in a field and let them rot. How friggin’ cruel can you be – Thank God a kind person found her. I hope she gets the safe loving home she was denied previously.

  9. It seems it has become epidemic throwing senior dogs away as if they were garbage! Why this is happening is beyond me! Would they get rid of their kids? This need to change when you take on the responsibility of another life that means till the other life is done not when it gets old or if it gets sick! Get a grip people what goes around comes around bear that thought in mind!

  10. The owner and the neighbor he/she left the dog with are both irresponsible subhumans. This poor dog was lucky it didn’t die in that cold and wet field.
And, as an aside, the dog should not have coffee, tea or milk.

    • They shouldnt be smoking cigaretts and drinking beer either but if their segnificant other enjoys it the dog wants in. Its part of pack mantality also to take tea away would be stripping her of a people honor. Also she likes it.
Originally dogs were carnovors but now a sort of tea, vegatarian, apple chomping carnie type. Dogs want what we like. they know what the good stuff is.
Dogs were not suppose to be like that
but now they are. To take her warm tea would be stripping of one of her comforting people delights.
Shes old enough . Tea drinkers are extreamly serious about their tea, both time and ritual. I hope they get it right.
madams mid morning tea and honey

  11. I highly doubt her “owner” left for Canada. I bet they wrote the note in hopes to throw off their guilt in abandoning her. People suck.

  12. I would find the original owner and the neighbor and take them both to court for animal abandonment. This is another sick case of HUMANS not wanting to be bothered with anything but themselves

  13. Both the original owner AND the “adoption” neighbor were irresponsible.

I hope by now this precious little treasure is a beloved family member in a loving furever home!!! She deserves the best!!!
