Dogs die after pet-sitter forgot about them

A teenage student, hired to pet sit for a family who left their Arizona home for one week in October, has been arrested after two of the dogs died. According to Tuesday’s ABC 15 News, the pet-sitter, identified as 19-year-old Tiffany Andrea Fajardo of Tempe, told the authorities that she “forgot” to go to the house to care for the dogs who had been entrusted to her.

The family who hired Fajardo had left instructions, and a check, at their home for the pet-sitter. Early in the week, Fajardo managed to get to the home to retrieve the funds which were left for her. Fajardo told the sheriff’s office that she did not have a car and forgot to go back to the family’s home to care for the four dogs who she had been hired to watch.

Two of the dogs, Airedale Terriers named Sampson and Piper, were found dead in their kennels on October 15 – two other dogs, a Schnauzer and a Chihuahua, had to be rushed to a veterinarian because they were severely dehydrated.

Fajardo was arrested by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office on February 1 – she is facing four charges of animal cruelty.

  1. Funny how she didn’t forget to get the check. She probability thought who will know she didn’t show up and take care of the dogs what could happened or she had no intentions all along not to do the dog sitting job.

  2. She didn’t “forget” to take the money. This is why I only hire professional pet sitters (my next door neighbor and I also exchange dog care favors). RIP sweet dogs. I’m sorry your lives meant so little to someone who was entrusted with your care.

    • Completely agree with you!!!

She will burn in Hell forever for her cruelty. Hope she gets there ASAP……

I take my furbabies to our veterinary clinic for boarding because I want to ensure they will get their medications as prescribed (we prefer to adopt old and medically “fragile” animals)….. I do know it’s much more stressful but the thought of them being without essential medications because the pet sitter was “careless”….. a huge issue for me…..

I feel badly for the furbabies who died horribly wondering where their family was and for their family who thought they were providing care for their furbabies in their comfortable home (far less stressful than the veterinary clinic)…..

  3. How terribly sad. I do think that while most 19 year-olds are quite capable of looking after pets for a short period of time, many in this age group are still very immature. Of course you could say that there are people out there who never mature, and this heartbreaking result could have occurred with “petsitters” of any age, but I do think that it would be less likely. I hope that this person learns from this experience, but unfortunately, I doubt she will.

  4. WOW……that is one cold blooded little bitch. She was able to retrieve the check, though. Gee, what does that say about her? I hope the owner files a lawsuit against her that will spin her sociopathic head. This pathetic excuse for a human being is displaying very dangerous behavior. I hope the owners of the dogs do the right thing and stop her before she strikes again. Did she take the money (check) and have a drug party?? Sure sounds like that kind of behavior. HOW WELL DID THE OWNERS KNOW THIS WOMAN? ADDICTION IS NO EXCUSE FOR CRUELTY AND TORTURE. Please do not pity this kind of selfishness and cruelty and torture.

      • Honestly it is people like her that make me believe in the death penalty. Some people, for whatever reason, are truly a threat and burden to society. I for one am really done with trying to “help” them. I have NO ability to feel one single ounce of empathy, compassion, or anything but disgust for these cruel and socio/psychopathic sub-humans. Just like the person that gets their 1st DUI, this was NOT the first time they drank and drove; it is the first time they got caught! I highly question the people that left their pets with this sub-human. I really am incapable of considering her truly human. I refuse to believe this is normal human behavior. Nazi maybe, NOT normal!

  5. Thank God she was arrested and I sure hope she is totally held accountable for what she did? I will follow this case to see just how serious her charges and sentencing, fines are?

  6. I can’t believe this. She only wanted money, and she was so irresponsible. I have pets and I guess best thing is to take them to doggie camp…I’m glad she was arrested and she should be prosecuted

  7. Seriously, was able to remember the money? How sad, sad .sad. so sorry for the family who lost their babies like this. No amount of punishment brings life lost. I hope the two dogs still alive make it. Rest well Samson and Piper, another human, who wasn’t humane.

  8. This is horrible, She had a job to do and she “forgot”? Funny how she made sure she got the check! She needs to sit in jail and think about what she did. I can’t imagine coming home and finding my pets like this! Not having a car is NOT an excuse!

    • YOU are all over the map with your feelings. THIS STATEMENT DOES NOT EVEN GO WITH YOUR STATEMENTS BELOW. Do you feel sorry for the killer, the pets, or the pet owners??? I am sure that the rest of the people on this site are only on the side of the dead dogs…..YOU maybe need to secure better “emergency” plans for YOUR DOGS! I am NOT lucky, I am responsible. Do NOT make light of how responsible I am!!!

      • I don’t understand why you are saying this. I do not think the owners of the dogs did anything wrong trying to hire someone to come into their home and take care of their pets. I have seen how upset my dog has gotten when I have had to take him to boarding and if I could have someone come in, I know he would be better off in our home. So I stick by my statement to Edward Nagle! I’m Sorry if you don’t think I should show some compassion for pet owners that thought they were doing the right thing having someone to come in to take care of their dogs only to come home and find them dead!

I have been in a situation where I have had an emergency and had to leave my dogs at a boarding facility. I had to go home for my Mother’s funeral and I had a terrible time finding a place for the dogs on such short notice. My vet does not board and we only have 1 boarding facility in our immediate area so if they are full you are out of luck. I’m glad you seemingly have a on the call boarding facility you can drop your pets off at a moments notice, some of us aren’t so lucky. If you have some suggestion on how I can better prepare for an emergency then by all means tell me! I was NOT making light of “how responsible you are” but I am not irresponsible either! These people trusted someone they shouldn’t have and the irresponsible POS needs to be punished for not doing her job!

  9. Well this “VILE PUKES” are HOPEFULLY PROUD OF The VERMIN THEY SPOWNED TOGETHER!!! WHAT a COLD ,CUNNING LITTLE BITCH!!!! SHE LOOKS LIKE SHE IS IN THE OZONE… MAYBE THE FAMILY LAWYER WILL SAY SHE HAS LEARNING DISABILITIES… SHE SURE LEARNED HOW TO CASH THE CHECK>>>. POOR family thinking the were doing RIGHT by their PET”S by having IN HOME CARE SO AS NOT TO DISTERB AND UPSET THEIR LITTLE DOGS!!! This Bitch should be “horse whipped”

  10. Put this slut monster in jail. Minimum of 5 years and a $100,000 fine. PLEASE…. START MAKING THESE LOW LIFES PAY for their torture….. she didn’t forget…. she got the money! I hope the family sues the crap out of her!

  11. fuck you you shouldbe arrested for allowing that monster to watch your dogs hope you enjoyed for vaction it cost you 2 of ur dogs lifes i have 7 babies i trust no one have not taken a vaction in 10 yrs

    • We have no idea why these poor people had to leave for a week, it may not have been a vacation. People have family emergencies, and with 4 dogs you cannot take them with you and such so to criticize them for leaving their pets with someone they thought was responsible is rather harsh. I’m glad you have never had to leave your pets but some of us have to for one reason or another. I would imagine these people thought they were doing the right thing hiring someone to come to their home to take care of their pets and not leaving them in a cold environment of a kennel. We don’t know what references this girl had or how they found her. It was unfortunate that this POS girl didn’t take care of the pets as she was contracted to do and hopefully she will pay dearly for her criminal act! Let’s have a little compassion for some people who thought they were doing the best for their pets and are now suffering severe consequences because they, most likely unknowingly, hired a monster.

      • I don’t agree. These people obviously did not do their due diligence! AND, I do not see what having an emergency has to do with a “cold kennel”. My vet is always ready to board my pets at a moments notice because I plan for “emergencies” like an adult!

      • Well you are very lucky, some of us don’t have vets that board dogs and if they do they have limited space available. In an emergency you might not be able to get your dog a space.

      • How WELL I can relate to you and your situation … boarding is “out of reach for people on S.S. retirement, and average salaries… they have a few in your home pet care taker’s ( the first one here was retired, and went to people’s homes and cared for the pet’s ) only problem was she didn’t care for her own… I have hand one of Her own Dachshunds ( she was going to put down because she said the dog ate plant food and had poisoned herself) Bull shit I went to the home immediately and said don’t kill her I will take her… she is still with us 8 years later. This dog was in a circular pen in the kitchen with another small dog and she was being starved , you could see every rib, sunken eyes, spin sticking out,) I seriously wanted to commit assault on this person! My vet was shocked to see this… too. She retired shortly there after…. so goes to show you … I too feel these people felt they had done the right thing.. and felt this young lady was a responsible individual… I question the girl’s family in this matter!!! It was a horrific lesson in trust and doing a very intense background check and reference check prior to commitment …. also don’t pay the full fee in advance!!!

      • Most pet sitters I have questioned don’t want payment until you come back. I have always paid the boarding facilities when I pick up my dogs. We don’t go too much as it is, I don’t like leaving my pets my 11 year old especially, as he gets all bent out of shape. The boarding facility had a terrible time with him trying to escape, throwing his food all over, pooping in the kennel and howling most of the day. I felt terrible leaving him, didn’t enjoy my trip to visit my husband’s daughter (not that I really wanted to go anyway) at all. I don;t know if these people did reference checks and if the girl was new at this there probably wasn’t much to check. We don’t know if they knew the girl’s family and yes her family should have been aware of what she was doing, I certainly would have been checking on my own daughter if she was watching someone’s pets for them. But parents of today don’t give a damn!

      • It is a sad situation all around!! I know for a fact neither Myself or My Husband would Trust his 36 year old son with caring for a “maggot” so we only go on day trips … at this point ….

      • I couldn’t trust my kids with taking care of my pets either, and Barkley would probably take their leg off if they walked into the house. He’s a great dog away from home, but doesn’t like people coming on to “his” property or in “his” house doesn’t matter how many times he has seen them.

      • Believe Me a Dog is a much better judge of a person than any human… Even when it comes to our own families!!! It might be a thought prior to even having some with all the references in the State you live in to come and meet you pet/pets and spend time with them prior to YOU EVEN thinking of Hiring them!!!! If the pet doesn’t like that person… that sure as hell answers your question!!!!
