His name is Scrappy, and this boy’s adorable face will make you smile. Then why is it no one has come for him, and why is it no one even bothers to look at him?

According to Orange County Animal Services’ volunteer Cris Ferreira Reed, this senior pooch has a lot to offer. He may be eight-years-old, but he has a lot to love to give and is super active and very strong. He is good with other dogs although it is recommended he be introduced to them slowly and to make sure the other dogs are calm.

“Hi, my name is Scrappy. I am an approximately 8 year 10 month old bl brindle and white neutered male.  I tested heartworm negative. I weigh approximately 70 pounds. I have been at Orange County Animal Services since Wednesday, November 15, 2017.

If you are looking for me, please come to Orange County Animal Services
at 2769 Conroy Rd., Orlando, FL. The phone number is (407)836-3111″

Scrappy may not be the prettiest dog in the shelter, but should that decide his fate? Share this boy’s story with friends, family and social media contacts. All he needs is that one special person who will see his photo and say “That’s my new best friend.” Sharing saves lives; just spend a moment sending this dog’s photo to a friend, and it might be the one who makes that special connection.

“Orange County Animal Services sent an email weeks ago saying he (Scrappy) needed out because the antibiotics weren’t working but I guess his health improved,” Cris shared with Pet Rescue Report. “I’m concerned because he is too skinny and nobody has shown any interest…”

Scrappy thinks he’s a lap dog, and even though he doesn’t seem to like cats, surely he would love someone to love him. Follow his Facebook page here.

  1. OMG: he is absolutely precious. I wish he were in Northern California…… he would be very much appreciated and loved in my family…… if anyone is coming to the SF Bay Area, I would love to see him up here….

  2. I will take him if no one wants him.. I love old dogs l have a girl an Am Staff who is around 10 yrs old. She is a couch potato and sleeps with me. Let me know how your doing. I live outside of Dade city towards Lakeland.

  3. He is adorable! Senior dogs make great pets. I have an 11-1/2 year old Yellow Lab (adopted him 3 years ago) and he’s also very strong! Praying someone gets Scrappy out of there ASAP.

    • Hi Mary:

I wrote to Cris and heard back from her and one other shelter volunteer.

Sadly, Scrappy was pulled and returned by a rescue. Shortly after being returned to the shelter he was killed by “heartstick” (which, if you are not aware, is a very cruel method of euthanasia)…….

I am absolutely heartbroken for Scrappy and for the hard working shelter volunteers who tried to save him. If I were in the area, I would have fostered him (my husband says I would have probably failed as a foster and kept him, as I have others), but the tough reality is that I am in Northern California, nowhere near Florida……
