A German shepherd is accused of killing a baby

Dog seized after allegedly killing baby

A family’s eight-year-old German shepherd has been seized by authorities in San Marcos, Texas, after allegedly killing a two-month-old baby on Tuesday afternoon, reported KXAN News. The baby’s father told the authorities that he had fallen asleep for approximately 20 minutes and that the baby was “cold” to touch when he woke up; he found the baby covered in bite marks.

The baby girl, whose name has not been released, was in a bouncy chair at the time of the alleged mauling. Local animal control officials impounded the German shepherd, who was reported to be “submissive.”

Multiple people commenting on the KXAN News report have questioned the facts of the father’s story – especially the length of time he claimed to be asleep (20 minutes) and why he would not have heard the baby’s screams.

The dog accused of the killing will be held in quarantine for 10 days and then the decision will be made about whether or not the dog should be euthanized.

I hope they investigate this father and not murder this dog and let the father get away with murdering his own child without a through investigation!

Poor dog ! He can’t defend himself. Obviously the dad put the blame on the dog . It’s the dog being euthanized or the dad put in jail. So he blame the one that can’t talk.
Just not fair. Hope authorities can find out the truth about this.

I agree with you. In nearly all these cases the so-called ”victims” always blames the poor dogs. Sick people.

There is more to the story. Hopefully, the dog will not be killed until further investigation is done, and the whole story is known. This sounds and smells awfully fishy.

I do not believe this very sad story , and why would the parent not her the child’s creams .These marks need to be checked for the bite size of the Shepherd .I hope this beautiful Shepherd will be treated fairly and not prejudged .Think the parent should be checked out . All sounds very unbelievable to me .Shepherds are protectors .

An investigation should be done. Did the dog have blood on it? Did the dog have aggressive issues before this? Is it possible that the dad did it and is blaming the dog? Before euthanizing the dog, there are things that should be figured out.

UMMMM… Maybe the dog was trying to get the baby out of the swing, or AWAY from the father mistreating it. MUCH, MUCH MORE TO THIS STORY!

This story does not hold water. Woke up 20 min later to a cold child ? Don’t think so. Sounds more like dog trying to rescue child than hurt child. Child crying didn’t waken man? If bitten by animal, an infant will cry alot. This needs to be thoroughly investigated, with open mind, before blaming or putting dog down. Check out how, where and the type of bite. This is human killing, not the animal.

Sounds more like they need to do an autopsy on the baby to determine cause of death. The baby may have had a seizure and the dog may have been trying to get the baby out of the seat – if the father didn’t wake up – and baby didn’t scream, it was not killed by the dog. They also need to drug test the father because if he was on heroin which puts you to sleep, that would explain him not hearing any commotion. There is too much unknown facts to the story. I don’t think the dog is responsible. I think the baby may have had a seizure, choked to death, and the dog was trying to wake it up. If dog was aggressive, he would have had done a lot more damage and been aggressive when cops got there.

I agree with the other reader’s. This story does not sound right. Only 20 minutes? Did not hear baby crying? I hope that they don’t jump the gun and murder this poor dog before the case is thoroughly investigated.

Definitely something wrong with this story. A submissive, senior, German Shepherd. I don’t believe him. He’s lying.

I don’t think the dog caused the baby’s death at all… I’m not a dr but I’d imagine it takes a lot more than 20 mins for a body to go cold after death… also how did the father not hear ANYTHING? ???!!!

They need to make sure they do tests and make sure it wasn’t that dog that bit the baby!!!! Tell father should have heard her SCREAMING!!! Do a thorough exam of everything before u accuse a dog that is maybe innocent!!! Prayers for example wry one working on this case!!!????

Bogus. Please some one call the medical examiner. This child would hardly be cold. The dog needs an attorney to probably save its innocent life. You have to get to the truth because you don’t have it now.Anyone with dog bites so severe that would cause death, and no one got in the middle of this fight to stop it could not have slept through it.You only have to have been bitten by a dog to understand it.

I agree with all the comments, something is not right about his story. Please due a thorough investigation and autopsy on that poor baby. Sounds like the father is very guilty about something that is why they need to due a through investigation. Please!

Something definitely wrong with this story. I am sure that poor
dog is innocent and I would be looking at the parents. Hope this is thoroughly investigated and the REAL killer brought to justice.

I am thinking the dog did not kill the baby. If the dog had harmed the baby there would have been a cry or scream from the baby. This whole story is fishy, like dead smell fishy. Someone in the house killed that baby so they are blaming the dog because the dog can’t speak. Time for an attorney for the dog. Anyone know of one?

I raised 2 babies with a German Shepherd and the dog wouldn’t have harmed a hair on their heads. This is another case of a parent leaving a child in reach of a dog and “falling asleep”. I believe there is more to this story than what the father is telling. Why didn’t he hear the baby scream? The baby was cold to the touch after only 20 minutes? Something isn’t right here, I hope an innocent dog doesn’t loose it’s life for something that wasn’t it’s fault!

If this was a Pit Bull people would be screaming for the dog to be killed, but since it’s a German Shepard it can’t possibly be the dogs fault right? Thanks for posting this news story Pet Rescue Report, usually only Pit Bulls make the news…Any breed of dog can bite or attack, FACT!

I agree with everybody, something is not right. If this dog was aggressive, why now did he kill the baby. And if the baby was been kill. You mean this guy did not hear the baby screams and dog growling killing the baby. I hope they really check this guy out.

I really believe the father did this and had the dog then come and bite on the child after he killed the baby it doesn’t add up poor dog an innocent victim like the child they both lose their lives when it should be him

I hope the baby’s skin is also checked. If something caused the baby’s death and the father tried to cover it up for some reason something could have been applied to the baby’s skin to make the dog think about food or to pick the baby up.

Only 20 minutes baby would not be cold yet. The dog probably knew something was wrong and tried to wake the child. German sherpards have excellent srnses and r very protective over kids. They need to further investigate

No blood mentioned!!!! A 2 month baby would not be that stable in a bouncy chair. I do believe the dog was trying to revive the baby with no mention of blood. I am sure the autopsy will state how long the baby was dead and maybe tell if bite marks was the reason of death and hopefully tell with the time of dad sleeping, then dog biting, and death time jives. Fishy for sure!!!!!! I hope the dog lives and be given up for adoption to true loves.

How can you not hear your own child? Unless you were in a comma! Sounds to me that the poor GS is going to take the wrap if they don’t do an autopsy and I would imagine authorities will bc it is suspicious!

If, and it’s a mighty big if, there were bite marks on the baby, I can almost guarantee they were postmortem and were from the dog frantically checking for life. Best case scenario, the baby died in his sleep, the dog sensed it and bit the baby hoping to wake it. The more likely case is that the father is responsible for the baby’s death.

This doesn’t sound right, at all. My 12 pound dog accidentally bit me when we were playing tug-a-war with his toy. I yelped loud enough for my kids to hear from their bedrooms. LOL
Seriously, a German Shepard attacking a child and neither the child or dog made enough noise to wake the father; absolutely needs investigation.
