There are few words to express the anger and disgust at such egregious animal cruelty and neglect. In southeast Dallas, Texas, Shadow was brought into a high-kill shelter by Animal Control with a monstrous sized tumor on his leg which weighs more than 20 pounds. At first glance, one would have thought there had been a black garbage bag tied around the dog’s lower leg – not so!  And this poor dog, whose growth weighs more than half of the emaciated senior’s body weight, was left to live like this for an unspecified amount of time. This condition didn’t happen overnight.

Rescued on Sunday by Dallas Dog RRR Rescue.Rehab. Reform, volunteers have expressed their anger directed towards anyone who may have seen Shadow and looked the other way. The words on the organization’s Facebook page addresses the appalling apathy and indifference to the needs of a  gentle and kind dog.

“… and no one to help. People staring at him in disgust and leaving him there to die, letting this tumor consume him. Shame on all of you who looked away. This senior should have been spending his golden years in front of the fireplace warm and loved. Instead, he was brought in by animal control to a kill shelter. No humanity of passion…”

Shadow’s tumor is bleeding and he will needs immediate medical care. Dallas Dog RRR have partnered with Second Chance Rescue NYC and Tall Tails Rescue to help with Shadow. According to the rescue organization, criminal charges are expected to be pressed against the dog’s owner.

  1. This is inexcusable! There had to be many who saw this poor little old man with this tumor! Though it’s a fatty tumor to let it get to this size is ridiculous! The surgery for a senior dog is already very risky but even more so because of the size of this tumor! Antibiotics will need to administered before during and after! The leg will need to be amputated to keep the tumor from returning! If the vets are good at this kind of emergency surgery he will come thru it well! He will need to be stabilized before hand though as he is do thin! I have a great deal of experience with doing surgery on senior dogs! I have no doubt he will be fine!

  3. Oh that poor baby. Our seniors are so precious, how can people turn away and let that sweet boy suffer?
I’d love to have a senior pittie move in and “throw him on to the furniture” and never off the furniture (until he chooses to leave the couch for treats and walkies!)
Thank you to the rescues that are doing all they can to help this gorgeous boy.

  4. The ROTTEN VILE , TEXAS DICK WEEDS that NEGLECTED this poor animal and let him suffer only to then discard HIM SHOULE be Tarred and Feathered like was done in the EARLY 1900’s EVEN THAT IS TOO GOOD FOR THEM!!! Their photos should be released and they NEED to be charged with gross neglect!!! Won’t happen in that STATE though!!

  5. Please keep us posted and updated on this poor dog. Hopefully it’s not cancer. Every dog should have a couch to sleep on in their old age! Breaks my heart and keep the promise to prosecute whoever is responsible for the neglect/torture!

  6. How anyone not have reported this much sooner is a POS! People who noticed and didn’t do a damn thing is just guilty as the owner who abandoned this poor dog.

  7. This dog was at a shelter in Houston , called BARC. Not brought to a shelter near dallas. Pretty sure owner surrendered him like that. Please get facts straight.

    • Cheryl Hanna what is up with the inaccuracies of this story? It makes me ponder that other stories on this site have also been inaccurate.

      • I’m not really sure what you mean here Linda. I take every precaution to report stories as accurately as possible. When I receive information from volunteers, and the story is breaking, I rely on these sources. With that being said, BARC is the only city shelter in Houston required by law to accept every animal that comes through the door. Notwithstanding that information, this organization is known to collaborate and coordinate with area rescue groups, but let me ask you a question? If a rescue couldn’t be found, would this dog have survived at the shelter? Sometimes we go through a lot of people who volunteer and try to give us the best info they can – with the ultimate purpose of helping to save these dogs. I think you are being unfair.

  8. Hope he will be healty and get a New careful foreverhome !!! Good Luck sweetie ???????????? and Big Hugs from Sweden ❤❤❤❤❤

  9. I nursed my last dog (a rescue) thru 2 bouts of cancer. my car sat in the driveway for months without a transmission because i used the money for my dog’s medical treatments. my pets are family. they sleep in our beds, ride in our car, lay on us on our couches. if this poor baby is in new york, we would definitely step up to foster or adopt him & give home the love & best life he deserves ????
