In Oshkosh, Wisconsin, a dog presumed to have drowned in an icy river when his owner’s vehicle fell through the ice as it veered into the Fox River has been rescued and is doing well. According to the Winnebago County, Wisconsin Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, the accident happened on Thursday night, and Sheriff Lt. Joe Kroncke stated the driver of the vehicle was able to get out of the water and yell for help. It was assumed, however that the dog named Missy had drowned.

On Friday, an updated announcement stated a coordinated effort, which involved the Oshkosh Fire Department and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources,  officers were able to coax Missy off of the ice after she apparently climbed out of the vehicle. She has been reunited with her family who will be tending to her medical needs. According to witnesses commenting on the Winnebago County, Wisconsin Sheriff’s Officer Facebook, the driver apparently became disoriented and headed in the wrong direction into the river.

Many thanks to the outstanding work of authorities rescuing the man and his dog. Photo of dog presumed to have drowned in icy river courtesy of Winnebago County, Wisconsin Sheriff’s Office.
