In a heartless act of animal cruelty and neglect, a dog in active labor was abandoned on a Cambridgeshire doorstep on St. Neots Road as she was delivering her first puppy. When discovered, the dog was rushed to a veterinarian for an emergency Cesarean section.

According to the Facebook page of the Fenland Animal Rescue, the organization had been called Thursday night after police were told about a crate of dogs that had been abandoned. When rescuers arrived, they were overwhelmed by what they saw.  Not only had the crate been left on a doorstep in the bitter cold with no shelter or cover, but inside was a female Chihuahua and terrier cross crying and whining in apparent agony. Next to her was a dead newborn puppy just hours old. The mother was in active labor and needed emergency treatment to save her life and the lives of her unborn puppies.

Veterinarians confirmed the mother dog, dubbed Bella, still had two puppies inside of her; one had been stuck in the birth canal while the other one was still in her womb. An emergency Cesarean was performed and all three were saved.

Bella is no more than a year-and-a-half old, and she and her puppies have a long recovery and maturing period of time.

“Bella, and her pups are safe with us, and will receive all the care and support they need, but this comes at a great price! We are desperately seeking your help to raise funds to cover their medical expenses. For all of their medical treatment to date, and those future necessities needed later in life, will run the bill into the thousands, this is a bill that we simply cannot see through alone. We are asking for your help, to give these dogs a better future and the life they truly deserve… anything helps, and we are truly grateful for all of your support!,” volunteers at the rescue posted on their Facebook page after posting the photos of the new family.

  1. Whoever owns this poor mama dog, needs to feel the pain this dog went through. Glad she and her pups were rescued, but if this owner is found, must be made to pay all vet. bills as well as jail time.

  2. I sincerely hope that whoever is responsible for this atrocity is dying a slow and painful death! They deserve no mercy!
