Dog with makeshift filthy bandage left to languish in agony under abandoned house

No one knows how long Axel had been suffering. He tried his best to hide; his agony perhaps indescribable, however the natural behavior of dogs precludes them from crying out so as not to attract predators. And under a filthy, garbage strewn house in south Texas Axle slept; he could barely move. His back leg, covered with a makeshift filthy bandage, was swollen, raw and infected.

When Axel was discovered, his rescuer gave him food and tried to coax him out from his dark den. Knowing time was of the essence for the dog’s survival, no one gave up until the quietly whimpering pup slowly crawled out. He was immediately transported to an emergency veterinarian hospital. Stacey Silverstein, co-founder of Rescue Dogs Rock NYC had already made the arrangements for Axel’s life-saving care.

“Maybe at some point, someone tried to help Axel as his severely injured leg was wrapped with a gauze bandage that had clearly been on for weeks. As can be seen in these photos the bandage is worn and decayed, filthy and Axel’s leg is now infested with infection from not being taken care of and the bandage being left on with no medical care for so long,” Stacey posted on the organization’s Facebook page Sunday evening.

Had not an entire “village” pitched in to help Axel and save his life, this dog would have died from infections and sepsis. According to all preliminary examinations, there is a strong possibility he will need to have his leg amputated. Veterinarians are hoping that several weeks of medical treatment may save his leg and his life.

Thank you RDR of NYC for rescuing Axel. Another dog in Texas that needed help and no one there to take care of this pup. Texas as well as other states, need to take care of the over population of dogs as well as cats and enforce a mandatory spay neutering for every dog and cat until this problem is under control. No killings of these animals either as this is the fault of unlicensed breeders as well as backyard breeders. States need to start taking charge of this and control it now.

Once again, it’s Rescue Dogs Rock NYC who steps up to the plate. I’ve given them almost $500 this year…a drop in the bucket of what they need but every little bit helps.

Very thankful there were rescuers who helped Axel and once again, if not for Rescue Dogs Rock NYC I am sure he would be dead – they seem to come through time and time again – they are definitely guardian angels for animals in desperate need. May Axel recover from his ordeal and get the safe loving home he so deservedly needs.
