When Hurricane Harvey charged into Texas, many families were forced to leave their homes, but was that an excuse to tie, lock up a dog and abandon her – never to return? For weeks, Bevy survived in a trash filled roach infected, abandoned home. For weeks, Bevy had been trapped between two pieces of metal unable to escape and barely move. For weeks, Bevy somehow survived.
When rescuers heard about the dog’s desperate plight, they carefully waded through the filth to rescue her. In the short video shown below, a flashlight helps the German shepherd’s rescuer locate the starving dog. Although the woman who saved the defenseless shepherd had been frightened to enter and couldn’t see her, she could hear the dog’s tail flapping with excitement against her metal prison as her rescuer approached. The woman never gave up; she was this dog’s hero. And then volunteers called Stacey Silverstein, co-founder of Rescue Dogs Rock NYC, who immediately volunteered to help.
Finally freed, Bevy was rushed to the Blue Pearl Emergency Hospital in Spring, Texas where her embedded collar had to be removed. She remains in critical condition, and it is hoped she will survive. On Monday afternoon, the dog’s condition was updated:
“At Blue Pearl Emergency Hospital -on an IV and having her neck wound surgically repaired. Thank goodness we saved Bevy when we did or she would have died from loss of blood and infection.”
Get well soon sweet dog. (Photos and video for dog locked up for weeks, courtesy of Rescue Dogs Rock NYC)
