A dog, left inside of a running truck, met with a tragic death in Alaska. According to the Peninsula Clarion, the dog somehow hit the gear shift and the pickup rolled down a steep bank and into the Kenai River on Sunday.

A witness stated that one of the owners could be heard screaming – and they saw her repeatedly diving into the water in an attempt to get the trapped dog out from the submerged vehicle. Kenai Police Sgt. Paul Cushman, who is quoted in Alaska Dispatch News, commented on the couple’s devastation over their dog’s drowning death, “the people are pretty distraught over that.”

The police did not release the names of the dog’s owners – they were said to have stopped to “enjoy” the view when tragedy struck.

  1. Just can’t fix stupid……

Takes a couple of seconds to turn off the engine, set the parking brake, and pull the key out of the ignition……..

RIP poor puppy. Sorry your humans failed you…..

  2. OMG! How awful! These owners are going to be living in GUILT HELL for the rest of their lives and my heart breaks for them! Poor poor dog! So so so incredibly sad and tragic! I have tears in my eye over this post

  3. Very sad and no blame here for the parents of this dog. I am certain they have enough guilty or why they did what they did. They are devastated and lost part of their beloved family member. Mistakes/accidents can happen anywhere anytime. Please don’t blame the owners. Hindsight is 20 20.

  4. This is heartbreaking, those poor people, I can’t imagine their guilt and desperation trying to save their dog. Rest in peace poor pup.

  5. I am usually the first to jump all over the owners but I feel sorry for them in this case (and the dog, of course!) Although, I do agree , this was negligent/careless on their part, it seems as though they loved their dog and will probably be forever wrecked by guilt. I think that will punish them for a long time coming. SAD. RIP pup.
