Dog curled up on porch found by authorities ‘frozen solid’

The Toledo Area Humane Society has launched an investigation into the heartbreaking death of a dog earlier this week, found on a porch in central Toledo “frozen solid.”

According to the Toledo Blade, the female dog had curled up on the porch trying to stay warm in front of a home located in the 1000 block of King Street. Outdoor temperatures have remained bitter cold in the low teens – light snow falling as the fierce winds howled.

Animal cruelty investigator Megan Brown does not know how long the dog had been left outdoors, but the future for another dog found inside of the home appears more promising. The underweight male dog could be seen through a window visibly shivering. After authorities spotted the dog, they obtained a search warrant and were able to rescue him. Both dogs are American bulldog breeds – the three-year-old female who died was named Nanas and the four-year-old male – Haze

Victor Vallejo Sr., 40, is the owner of the dogs and stated he had been unaware of any problems and had left both dogs inside of the home a few days prior. The utilities in the house had recently been shut off. Admitting to have fallen on bad times, Vallejo stated the dogs had food and water, although he had not been staying at the house.

Officer Brown, however had a different story as to the welfare of the dogs. According to the officer neither dog had any food or water. Although the porch had a roof and there had been a blanket left for her, there was no shelter from the bitter cold.

Haze is now in the care of the shelter and is expected to make a full recovery. It is likely Vallejo will be charged with animal cruelty.

Rest in peace Nanas.

This makes me sick to my stomach. Nanas suffered horribly as she waited to die, wondering what she did wrong. RIP Nanas. I hope Victor Vallejo Sr. rots in Hell.

Police need to arrest this “thing” and throw him in jail where the inmates will deal with him.Fallen on hard times my you know what. He took care of himself and that was all he did. Leaving one dog outside and one inside is disgusting and he should be given the same that he gave this poor dog. Why do the laws let these things off with nothing more than a slap on the wrist. This thing basically killed this dog without any remorse. Used them for fighting I bet. Get him in jail now.

I have an idea. Take this pea-brained POS, pour a bucket of water over him, and turn him out into the same weather that killed this poor dog. RIP Nanas

I don’t understand what the pet parent was thinking…… I think he abandoned those two dogs (& would have said ANYTHING to “weasel” out of animal cruelty charges)….. The news article was very clear: he was NOT a “model” pet parent.

RIP Nanas. I am very sorry humans failed you in every way possible….. you deserved so much better treatment than what happened to you……

Your former parent will burn in Hell forever for his cruelty to you…..

Vallejo BEST be charged with animal cruelty – his lies and lack of concern for either dog is despicable – he ‘saw no problem’ – of course not, leaving two animals to freeze to death is never a problem. This poor little dog stuck outside in the horrific cold froze to death while that skank bastard was somewhere nice and warm – O man, there are people who should be eliminated and he is definitely at the top. PLEASE make sure this POS gets prosecuted.
